Summary

• ​Education, Prevention & Risk Mitigation Resource

  • Oversight of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) prevention, outreach, and education efforts for the campus-wide community.
  • Instructs Mental Health First Aid classes.
  • Facilitates and schedules meetings with students who are transported for ATOD use and oversees the assigning of the educational component and follow-up assessment meetings.
  • Oversee the coordination of care with off-campus service providers to provide specialized group and individual therapy around alcohol and other substance use.
  • Organization and the facilitation of support groups
  • Serves as an incident-specific member of the University Threat Assessment Team (TAT)
  • Serves as an admission committee liaison for referral of resources for Summer incoming students.
  • Assists, provides consultation, and reviews readmission documentation with CAPS oversight.

  Peer Services & Recovery Programming

  • Employs evidence-informed practices to guide program development and set strategic priorities for Spiders Support Recovery; maintains records, conducts ongoing assessments and evaluation.
  • Supports campus-wide outreach and educational efforts including the teaching of WELL 101 courses, orientation programming, Naloxone trainings, Recovery Ally Trainings, guest lecturer in academic courses, etc.
  • Facilitates Collegiate Recovery Seminars with state-wide colleagues around the support and education for the recovery community within the state of Virginia and Mid-Atlantic region.
  • Facilitates workshops in partnership with School of Professional and Continuing Studies (SPCS) for students interested in becoming a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist.
  • Provides direct support to students along the spectrum of recovery through individually-focused peer coaching services, educator, group facilitator, referral provider and mentor.

  • Responds to recovery support inquiries from students, family members, and other campus or community members; community resource for addiction and recovery topics; provides referrals to on- and off-campus providers.
  • Participates in after-hours and weekend meetings and programs as needed.

  Outreach and Advocacy

  • Coordinates programming and awareness events; collaborates and develops strong partnerships with campus and community partners to ensure access to services for students in recovery.
  • Participates in professional organizations to advance the work of collegiate recovery.
  • Works directly with Health and Well-Being Unit, Marketing and Membership Coordinator to assist in creation and dissemination of marketing and other publication materials to promote, strengthen, and grow recovery support services and ensure all initiatives and programs are positive, developmentally appropriate, empowering, and inclusive to a diverse community.
  • Advocates for awareness, understanding and the diversity and inclusion of all people in Health & Well-being facilities, programs and communication while providing a commitment to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Advocates for the educational and cultural benefits of providing diversity and inclusion.

  Administrative Duties

  • Oversees daily operations of the on-campus dedicated recovery space.
  • Develops, monitors, annually reviews, and updates all departmental budgets to provide sound fiscal management for the department including all operating, and employment budgets.
  • Develops and implements collegiate recovery-identified areas of the Health and Well-Being Unit strategic plan.
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates recovery support initiatives, including but not limited to oversight of the Recovery Community at University of Richmond.
  • Maintains proper training in motivational interviewing, crisis intervention, and other university policies and procedures.
  • Participates in Division and University-wide events as needed.

  University Partnerships and Collaboration

  • Develops and maintains relationships with campus partners and local recovery and treatment providers to ensure support services, including 12-step and other recovery meetings and IOP.
  • Maintains relationships between the University of Richmond and state and national networks of Collegiate Recovery programs and communities.
  • Maintains relationships between on-campus partners including URPD, Athletics, Title IX, Law School, Health and Well-Being Unit Departments, Dean’s Offices, SPCS and off-campus Naloxone distribution and assessment and service providers.

  CONTACTS: 

  • Students, faculty and staff, family members; also collaborates with local, state and national recovery communities

  QUALIFICATIONS:

  Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Cultural competence related to recovery language, communities, and resources
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability to be flexible, work independently, and be proactive in strengthening partnerships
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice and creating inclusive environments
  • Demonstrated ability to use discretion and collaborate with others in a fluid environment
  • Ability to mentor, handle sensitive information confidentially and compassionately and perform in a manner consistent with standards of professional care, legal boundaries of service and ethical requirements of human service and student success

  Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (or ability to obtain Virginia state certification within 30 days of hire) required
  • Two years’ experience delivering Peer Services in a clinical or non-clinical setting required
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at University of Richmond

  Preferred Qualifications

  Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) Trainer of Trainers

  • Naloxone Trainer of Trainers
  • Training in Motivational Interviewing and Crisis Intervention
  • Prior work experience in both clinical and non-clinical Peer Services
  • Experience with a collegiate recovery community and recovery community organizations
  • Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating health promotion or recovery support initiatives; understanding of student development issues, emerging needs, and interests

Scheduled hours: Limited-term position; term ends May 31, 2026; 35 hours per week; partial benefits (prorated leave)

Hourly Grade 5: $19.72 to $30.00
