Survey Field Crew Chief

RaganSmith, a Pape-Dawson company, is seeking a full time Survey Crew Chief based in our Chattanooga office. This position is responsible for providing surveying field support for various types of land surveying projects. The Survey Crew Chief will have the experience to ensure the accuracy of field work and supervise a two or three person field crew. This position will also perform field calculations, operate and maintain survey equipment, make proper field notes and sketches, ensure the proper maintenance of crew vehicles, adhere to all applicable safety procedures, and other duties as necessary to complete complex land surveying projects. This position may require out of town work.

Responsibilities

• Work primarily in the field on land surveys including control, boundary, topographic, DOT, construction layouts and more
• Collect survey data per industry and client specifications, scopes of work, and field manager direction
• Daily processing, uploading and downloading of data collectors
• Supervise all members of the survey crew
• Daily coordination with survey field manager, project managers and other office staff as needed
• Willing and able to continually learn new techniques, processes, and equipment operation
• Perform office duties including data reduction, field note reduction, calculations, data checks, and staking computations using survey computer programs as needed
• Additional related duties as needed

Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license
• 3– 5+ years of experience in surveying as a Crew Chief, preferably in DOT or Boundary Surveying
• Experience with GPS, Robotic total stations, and data collectors
• Perform tasks and solve problems with a high degree of independence

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in a survey program or equivalent
• Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Inroads and Open Roads Designer and Trimble Business Center Software
• Scanning and drone flight experience
• FAA Part 107 license
