Position Summary:
The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for the clinical application and administration comprehensive health care services for sports as assigned by Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Student-Athlete Welfare. This individual will be an integral part of the Sports Medicine Team who must build professional relationships with student-athletes, athletic and University department staff, parents, and the medical community. Additionally, the Assistant Athletic Trainer will responsible for administrative duties as assigned, and will assist the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine with the supervision of 3 part time intern certified athletic trainers.

Assist Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine with supervision of part time intern athletic trainers paired with Assistant Athletic Trainer’s primary sport assignments.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Environment – Requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Exposures encountered - Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. Essential physical requirements: Climbing, standing, stooping, typing, running Physical effort/lifting: Heavy Lifting – over 50 pounds.. Required to work early mornings, late nights, weekends, travel, and be on-call as a regular part of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, skills & ability:
Knowledge and clinical skill in the prevention, recognition, evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries, acute care and emergency response to athletic injuries, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries and health care administration A thorough understanding of evidence based medicine and appropriate current standards of care in Sport Medicine. A thorough knowledge in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, exercise physiology, nutrition, and strength and conditioning principles Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal communication skills. Adherence to all applicable NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations is required.
Education & experience:
BOC Certified Athletic Trainer
CPR / AED Certified for Professional Rescuer
VA Board of Medicine License to practice Athletic Training
Bachelor’s Degree is required.
Master’s degree is preferred
Preferred 2-year experience as a certified athletic trainer
Preferred 2 year experience in intercollegiate or professional athletics
SALARY STRUCTURE: Pay Grade 5 (Hiring Range $39,083.00 to $51,792.00 annually), salary exempt
