Job Summary

Under general supervision, functions as a specialist or entry level manager responsible for providing assistance in the planning and coordination of one or more component of a food service operation. Performs activities pertaining to dishroom operations, calculation of labor and supply costs, scheduling, and employee relations. Supervises a group of dishwashers in dining operations to ensure the cleanliness of dishes, pots, pans, and smallwares.  Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of dishwashing equipment and dish transportation and storage equipment

Authority and Accountability

Reports to Commons Manager

Direct reports: 1 pin dishwasher, 23 contingent dishwashers, and student workers as assigned.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred

Work Experience: Five years progressively responsible experience in commercial or institutional food service sanitation, two years of which must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity

Certification/Licensure: ServSafe Manager certification required within 6 months of hire

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Thorough knowledge and understanding of the procedures, equipment and supplies used in dishwashing. Thorough knowledge and skill in the use and maintenance of dishwashing equipment; in the selection and application of chemicals and supplies; in providing guidance and training to others. Ability to utilize multiple sources of communications to work with outside support staff for dishwashing personnel; to estimate supply and equipment needs; to read, write and perform arithmetic calculations; to operate assigned tools and dishwashing equipment; to work with chemicals and cleaning solutions; to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to lift and transport supplies and refuse; to wear and work in personal protective equipment

Physical demands of the position: Walking, stooping, reaching, kneeling, climbing, standing, repetitive motion, use scaffolding/ladders, bending, pulling, crawling. Lifting up to 40 lbs., exerting force up to 40 lbs.

The position is a full-time, non-exempt state role with comprehensive benefits.
