Job Summary
The Medical Simulation Technician’s primary role is the implementation and delivery of healthcare simulation activities utilizing both advanced robotic simulators and highly trained standardized patient (SP) actors through the application of simulation technologies such as computers, audiovisual equipment, or other networking technologies.
They will proactively set up, help facilitate, and break down educational settings for scenarios involving anatomy and physiology, adult health, maternal and newborn care, pediatrics, mental health, or interprofessional education learning simulations and experiential activities in support of CHHS faculty or external partners.
The Medical Simulation Technician is expected to be technologically fluent in the set-up, operation, and troubleshooting of the Sim Center’s advanced robotic manikins, audiovisual and XR technologies (e.g. Anatomage Tables), and medical equipment and devices used in simulations. In collaboration with faculty, simulation staff, and standardized patients (SPs), the technician ensures simulations run smoothly and meet learning objectives.
While technical skill is important, this position focuses heavily on the human side of simulation. The technician will spend much of their time working directly with SP actors, helping them prepare for simulations, moderating SP-based scenarios, and participating in debriefing sessions to ensure high-quality learning experiences. This role plays a key part in creating authentic, supportive, and well-organized educational environments where students can practice and grow.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys both technology and teamwork. Further, someone who takes pride in facilitating meaningful, real-world learning experiences. The right candidate will be comfortable using and maintaining high-tech systems while also collaborating closely with SPs, faculty, and staff to deliver effective, engaging simulations.
Authority and Accountability
The Medical Simulation Technician will report directly to the SP Program Coordinator, who oversees the Standardized Patient program and the Virtual Anatomy Lab. This is a part-time, intermittent position, compensated through the Sim Center’s state operational or entrepreneurial accounts.
