Job Summary:

Provides therapeutic and patient care services for the purpose of delivering radiation therapy as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Delivers patient treatment plan in collaboration with physician and dosimetrist/physicist.

  • Evaluates patients for appropriate response to treatment and reports any adverse reactions.

  • Positions patients and selects anatomic/technical parameters accurately; maintains a high degree of accuracy in positioning and treatment techniques while utilizing radiation protection procedures.

  • Reviews patient charts for completeness and accuracy according to established policies and procedures. Verifies completion of prescription, appropriate signatures, and patient consents.

  • Responsible for effective and safe operation of equipment in the Linac treatment room. This includes the Linear accelerator, OBI, portal imager, Protura couch, and HDR unit.

  • Fabricates individualized immobilization, custom blocks, and other beam-modifying devices.

  • Applies as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) principle to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.

  • Primary liaison between patients and other members of the radiation oncology team.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.

  • Works under minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Education

  • Associate's degree or higher in Science required upon hire OR

  • Associate's degree or higher in related field required upon hire                                  

Additional Education Information

  • A combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • RT(T) - Registered as a Radiological Technologist in Radiation Therapy required upon hire AND

  • ROC - Radiation Operator Certification in the state of Kentucky required upon hire AND

  • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position
