General Description / Primary Purpose:
The Financial Aid Specialist review, analyzes, and monitor student’s financial aid records which are used to determine students’ financial aid awards based on established eligibility criteria subject to internal and external audit. Also clarifies federal, state, and University rules, regulations, statutes, procedures, and policies to advise students and others including University faculty and staff. This position involves specialized capabilities and knowledge in the implementation and administration of financial aid in one or more of several federal and/or state program areas, including but not limited to: grants, loans, work study, student eligibility, and return to Title IV.

Marginal Functions:
Participate in cross training activities with the Enrollment Services Processing office. Participates in activities that involve testing Banner. Participates in yearly training opportunities and may be asked to train new employees. Responsible for updating functional job description on a yearly basis.

Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal; must be well organized; must have strong computer skills; must be able to sit for long periods of time and focus on data processing; must be able to perform duties in an open/shared space work environment; must be able to maintain accurate records; must have ability to use independent judgment and initiative; must have the ability to analyze and evaluate information; must have the ability to understand basic interpersonal and team building skills and act professionally in the work environment; must have the ability to deal effectively, respectfully, and diplomatically with others, and maintain good working relationships with co-workers.
Supervision Exercised:
This position is non-supervisory.
Supervision Received:
The incumbent develops procedures for performing a variety of complex duties within established guidelines; has considerable freedom while the work is in process and receives instructions on new assignments.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or a high school diploma and 4+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
