Job Description

Job Title: Bartender/Server

Department: Food & Beverage                                                     

Supervision Exercised: N/A

Supervision Received: Director of Food & Beverage, Executive Chef, and Food + Beverage Supervisor

Job Summary: The bartender provides exceptional service for both our Doheny Surf Restaurant + Bar and Longboard Rooftop Lounge.

Job Duties include the following:

Guest Services & Operations:

  • Efficiently and properly perform all service standards.
  • Attend to guest needs by answering questions regarding food & beverage and our facilities accurately and in a friendly manner.
  • Maintain full knowledge of menus, recipes, and other pertinent information regarding the hotel.
  • Identify food orders when ready and deliver items to tables in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage consistent with the hotels standard drink recipes.
  • Prepare garnishes for drinks, presents drink menus, makes specific recommendations to guests.
  • Assist in restocking and replenishment of bar inventory.
  • Record drink orders accurately and immediately after receipt into Micros PMS.
  • Handle difficult situations effectively including understanding responsible pouring beverage.
  • Must be familiar with and adhere to all liquor liability laws.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Administrative & Communication:

  • Communicates with any guest needs to Director of Food + Beverage, Executive Chef and Food + Beverage Supervisor.
  • Set up, clean and clear bar/tables, and breakdown throughout the shift.
  • Report all equipment problems and bar maintenance issues to leadership and or maintenance in a timely manner.
  • Completes side work during non-busy hours.
  • Responsible for constant sanitation, organization, and proper food handling.
  • Prepare work areas for opening, mid-shift, or closing in accordance to company standards.
  • Reports to as scheduled, in uniform, and ready to be in position which includes uniform to be pressed and cleaned, name tag worn, and excellent hygiene.
  • Follow up with guest requests/complaints

Minimum Requirements:

  • Previous serving experience in a hotel setting such as Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt or another hotel brand.
  • Must have a flexible schedule and be available to work weekends, holidays and overnight shifts.
  • Must have exceptional customer service skills.
  • Ability to satisfactory communicate in English with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding.

Necessary Licenses/Certifications:

  • RBS Certification will be required prior to the start of employment.
  • Must complete CA Food handlers Card training provided upon hire.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
