GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
Collects, accurately enters all required data elements of trauma registry, and
ensures timely reporting to the Texas Department of State Health Services on at
least a quarterly basis. Ensures quality of trauma data entry and analysis of data
for performance improvement activities.

oriented.

action and accomplish tasks.
• Assesses medical records from various points of admission for
appropriateness of inclusion into the trauma registry.
• Collects and electronically enters all required data elements on all trauma
patients included in the registry, no later than 45-60 days after discharge.
• Electronically uploads all trauma data to the state registry at least quarterly
and maintains documentation of download.
• Electronically uploads all trauma data to the National Trauma Data Bank at
least quarterly and maintains documentation of download.
• Interacts with medical record staff to resolve coding inconsistencies.
• Assists with established audits on trauma patient records.
• Compiles and analyzes reports for committees, providing backup and
justifications for statistics.
• Attends monthly trauma review committee. Records minutes.
• Coordinates the acquisition of missing information from EMS and transfer
hospitals.
• Assists in education of staff regarding requirements for audits as it relates to
trauma standards.
• Maintains trauma log and abstracts.
• Analyzes data for trends for use in injury prevention initiatives.
• Collects submersion data and submits to state registry no greater than 45 days
after discharge. Maintains record of submission.
• Requests and obtains autopsy reports from local medical examiner for review.
• Participates monthly/quarterly with Coastal Bend Regional Advisory Council
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; associate
- degree or higher preferred; or 3-5 months related experience and/or training;
- or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- • Secretarial and advanced computer skills required.
- • Ability to oversee and coordinate registry requirements.
- • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Certificates, License, Registrations
- • Digital Innovations-Collector course within six months of employment.
- • Trauma registrar certifications within two years of employment, as available.
- • Knowledge of medical terminology.
- • ISS/AIS course within one year of employment.
- • American Trauma Society’s Registrar Certification, preferred
