Job Summary (Essential Functions)
The Superintendent is responsible for managing the golf course and club grounds. This position: hires, trains, and develops employees. The Golf Course Superintendent will make decisions when the Director of Grounds is unavailable.
Job Tasks/Duties
Playability is rooted from watering practices. This position will have a major impact on playing conditions for the golf course. Course conditions should be firm, fast and green.
Irrigation knowledge and schedule irrigation nightly based on playability and turf health.
Maintains expenditures within the approved budget.
Adhering to and exceeding maintenance standards for the membership and guests.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with staff, managers, members, and outside contractors.
Develop training for all employees.
Communicate with Director of Grounds and Assistants with daily responsibilities.
Communicate with Golf Staff of maintenance that interfere with daily golf.
A complete understanding of how to calibrate, mix and apply chemicals on the property. Also, the ability to train and supervise subordinates to follow through on proper chemical applications.
Interact with members and attend/participate in committee meetings.
Motivate staff and build a team atmosphere.
Perform routine evaluations for employees.
Train and provide a safe environment for all employees.
Understand water resources for Pinehurst Country Club irrigation.
Ability to research and ask thorough questions.
Hold employees accountable for their actions.
Detailed tree and ornamental care maintenance.
Effective recordkeeping for all activities and cultural practices on the golf course.
Evaluate and develop new ideas and techniques to improve quality and productivity.
Manage course construction such as tee boxes, sand traps, greens, etc.
Manage special events throughout the property.
Plan and implement a sound agronomic plan for the golf course.
Plan and implement a sound cultural program for the golf course.
Regularly monitor conditions and troubleshoot.
Scheduling staff to maintain grounds accordingly.
Attending continuing education and employee development seminars.
Attention to detail.
Involved with local and national superintendent association.
Licenses and Special Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Plant and Soil Sciences/Turfgrass Management or equivalent
At least 5 years of golf course management experience.
Ability to effectively communicate with employees, managers, and members.
Neat appearance in person and in dress.
Knowledge of irrigation computers and watering practices.
Ability to operate heavy machinery and all golf course equipment.
Ability to play the game of golf and understand how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course.
Must have a valid driver’s license.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain the Colorado Department of Agriculture’s Qualified Supervisors Pesticide License.
Must be proficient in standard computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and irrigation technologies.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Auditory: Ability to communicate clearly in routine conversations in person, via telephone or 2-way radio. Must be able to hear normal sounds with background noise and distinguish voice patterns.
Environmental Conditions: This position’s duties may be performed inside maintenance facility with cooler temperatures for extended periods of time and volunteer assignments and some building maintenance assignments are conducted in outside environments, in all weather conditions.
Other: Ability to produce information in written form. Ability to operate heavy equipment. Ability to pay attention to detail and concentrate for 60 minutes or more with constant interruptions.
Strength: Ability to move to and from various points within Pinehurst Country Club, as well as within the outdoor environment, surrounding communities, and the Front Range. Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds up to 50 feet.
Visual: Ability to perform manipulative skills that require hand-eye coordination such as a calculator or computer and be able see objects closely as in typing a document or reading a report.

Salary: $85,000 - $110,000/Annually
