You can help by becoming a Claims Specialist in our office! We work compassionately with victims to access the services they need and process claims to minimize financial barriers to healing.
As a Claims Specialist, you will perform various complex duties while adhering to program rules. You will work directly with crime victims and their families to help support them through the Victim Compensation process to lessen the financial burden that has been placed on them due to the crime. You will also prepare and process specialized documents, provide information, and respond to public and other agency concerns.

We Require
Two years of clerical accounting, bookkeeping, or specialized administrative experience
High school diploma or GED
Post-secondary education may substitute for the minimum experience on a year-for-year basis
We Also Value
Experience in medical billing procedures
Bilingual skills in English and Spanish
Job Contributions
Works directly with victims, community partners, advocates, law enforcement, providers, prosecutors and the public
Provides community outreach and assistance
Provides supportive services to victims and their families
Performs work in adherence to rules governing the compensation program, policies and procedures with accuracy and thoroughness
Reviews and summarizes police reports
Evaluates information to determine if the program criteria are met
Submits case and claim materials to the board for review and decision
Attends monthly board meetings
Assesses the practical needs of crime victims and provides resources and referrals
Coordinates with attorneys, victim advocates and staff to obtain restitution information on behalf of the program
Clearly explain the Victim Compensation Program rules and process to victims and service providers
Process claims and requests through accurate data entry
Working Conditions
Teleworking Hybrid schedule available based on business needs
High volume, fast-paced office environment
Requires long periods of sitting while completing paperwork and computer activities
Requires travel to and from job-related locations during the course of a scheduled workday, subject to County policies regarding the use of County vehicles and/or private vehicles used on County business
Ability to lift/push/pull/carry up to 20 pounds
