Planning and DevelopmentAbout the Position
This intern would primarily be a research assistant for the Planning program, while also receiving other experience-related benefits. Our intern would perform deep and thorough research into other jurisdictions’ practices on certain zoning ordinance topics in the format we want. An opportunity to shadow staff at public hearings, shadow selected staff on processing and reviewing cases and writing staff reports. As part of our ongoing Zoning Ordinance review an initial project to propose and prepare graphics wherever possible in the ordinance and tables/charts that can eventually replace paragraphs of text, research and propose revisions to or new definition in the ordinance, etc. As part of our ongoing Comprehensive Plan update there can be many related research projects on land use planning and development subjects.
NOTE: Internship runs from Monday, May 11, 2026, through August 11, 2026

We Require
Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a Bachelor's or Master’s degree program related to Planning, Geography or a related field of study
Job Contributions
Research into planning and zoning related subjects
Report writing including analysis of research with preparation of charts and matrices
Preparation of graphics and charts to illustrate requirements from the zoning ordinance
Customer service at the front counter to answer general questions about planning and zoning
Case management of administrative planning and zoning applications
Other Job Duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
Exerting up to 20 lbs. occasionally, 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible amounts constantly OR requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
Position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
