Job Description:
Prescribes, delegates, and coordinates the nursing care of infants, toddlers, preschoolers, school age and adolescent children with medical, surgical, orthopedic, neurologic and/or developmental disabilities. Must be able to communicate with patients in an age/ developmentally appropriate manner.
Professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for and provides safe, quality nursing care to patients in the Radiology Department.
Assumes nursing responsibility for patient care during procedures from reviewing the patient's medical history, initial assessment, plan of care, patient education, checking for lab results, administering sedation medications, monitoring, and recovering the patient, assisting the physician, and discharging the patient.
Nursing care includes minimal to moderate sedation per hospital policy and ordered by a radiologist or anesthesiologist. Must remain knowledgeable on sedation procedures used during diagnostic procedures.
Advocates for patients, using nursing knowledge and organizational skills to coordinate patient care, communicate with clinical staff and families to ensure that individual patient’s needs are met in the most safe, effective, and efficient way.
Possesses advanced and mature critical thinking and assessment skills and has the ability to quickly assess and problem-solve complex situations.
Able to manage emergencies until nurse or code team arrives.
Demonstrates the ability to perform patient procedures using tactical and fine motor skills and knowledge of safe and effective use of equipment.
Performs duties within ethical and professional guidelines.
Assists in maintaining a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment.
Must be a graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
Current Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license is required (or is eligible for reciprocity and holds a temporary permit from the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners to practice professional nursing).
Current CPR and PALS certification is required.
Two or more years of experience as an RN in a pediatric acute care or radiology setting is strongly preferred.
No implanted devices that preclude the ability to be in MRI environment (e.g., pacemaker, implanted defibrillator, insulin pump).
Safe patient handling and able to lift 25 pounds.
