The Associate Director of Online Instruction and Training ensures the School of Education’s instructional excellence—and serves as the primary assessment officer for online modalities and online platforms utilized by the school. In addition, the DOTL will support adjunct instructors to ensure quality, preparedness and provide support.

This role will:

  • Standardize, evaluate, and ensure compliance and accessibility of all courses
     

  • Oversee collection, analysis, and reporting of student‐learning and program‐level assessment data
     

  • Hire, onboard, train, and support adjunct faculty
     

  • Provide ongoing pedagogical coaching and support seminars for adjuncts/staff.
     

  • Manage instructional design, LMS configuration, and quality‑assurance processes
     

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Dean’s office, adjuncts, and student‑support teams

Key Outcomes

Course Standardization & Evaluation (25%)

  • Oversee instructional‑design, rubric‑driven reviews, and launch of all online/asynchronous and blended courses
     

  • Maintain course templates, syllabus standards, and assessment‐alignment guides
     

  • Conduct regular audits—peer reviews or screen‑share walkthroughs—to ensure engagement, accessibility, and DEIB best practices
     

Assessment Data Leadership (20%)

  • Design and implement a comprehensive assessment plan for program‑level and course‑level outcomes
     

  • Collect, clean, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data (e.g., end‑of‑course surveys, rubric scores)
     

  • Generate dashboards and detailed reports for accreditation bodies (DESE, CACREP) and internal stakeholders
     

  • Translate data findings into action: develop curricular revisions, faculty training topics, and student‑support interventions
     

Faculty Hiring, Onboarding & Training (20%)

  • Recruit, interview, and select adjunct instructors qualified to support graduate‑level courses (including doctoral)
     

  • Manage onboarding logistics with Academic Coordinator: PAPs, orientation materials, and LMS account setup
     

  • Develop and deliver initial and ongoing training seminars/ workshops in collaboration with Quality Assurance: Canvas best practices, active‑learning, inclusive teaching
     

Communication (15%)

  • Act as the day‑to‑day contact for adjuncts on pedagogy, grading policies, tech issues, and academic integrity
     

  • Liaise with program coordinators, student‑support services, and the Dean to resolve adjunct  and student concerns
     

  • Maintain communication channels: monthly newsletters, Slack/MS Teams groups, and virtual office hours
     

Program Development & Continuous Improvement (15%)

  • Support triannual review of program descriptions, learning outcomes, curriculum updates and accreditation self‑studies
     

  • Partner with Assessment & Accreditation to incorporate data insights into curriculum mapping and course revisions
     

  • Facilitate cross‑program alignment across undergraduate, graduate, and certificate offerings
     

Departmental Events (5%)

  • Supervise the Graduate Program of Study (adjunct assignments, conference planning, social media outreach, special events)
     

  • Represent the School at related meetings, academic retreats, and external conferences
     

  • Co‑plan department‑wide professional‑learning days and adjunct symposiums

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

 
  • Master’s in Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Leadership, or related (Doctorate preferred)
  • 5+ years’ experience in online course development, faculty training, or academic leadership
  • Demonstrated success collecting and analyzing educational assessment data; experience with dashboards and accreditation reporting
  • Proven track record hiring, onboarding, and mentoring adjunct or part‑time faculty
  • Expertise with an LMS (Canvas preferred), instructional‑design models (e.g., ADDIE, Backward Design), and accessibility standards (WCAG, UDL)
  • Experience implementing quality‑assurance processes (course reviews, rubrics, accreditation)
  • Strong analytical skills: able to interpret assessment results and translate findings into actionable improvements
  • Familiarity with MA DESE licensure requirements, regional/national accreditation standards, and inclusive‑pedagogy best practices
  • Ability to travel to campus for in‑person meetings and events as needed
