Job Description

PURPOSE SUMMARY.  Performs front counter cashier functions, provides support for other cashiers, reviews and balances transactions from other cashiers, supports cash operations supervisor in preparing daily deposits and reconciling reports.  Performs trainings for cashiers.  Responds to and resolves escalated customer service issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES. 

1. Performs front counter cashier functions for the Treasurer’s Office.

  • Verifies and receives beginning cash for a front-counter cash drawer; keeps till and receipted payments secure at all times.
  • Receipts cash, check and credit card payments; makes change as required.
  • Researches tax information from a computerized database.
  • Balances cash drawer by reconciling total receipts and cash against reports.

2. Provides daily front counter assistance to the public.

  • Answers questions and provides assistance related to property and personal tax documents.
  • Calculates current and delinquent taxes; miscellaneous fees; and taxes paid in advance for mobile homes and parcels.
  • Assists taxpayers with tax delinquency questions and explains governing directives, processes, timeframes and methods.
  • Drives to pick up mail.

3. Balances, Audits, and reconciles other teller cash drawers.

  • Audits teller cash balances on a monthly basis.
  • Verifies teller daily balance sheets.
  • Performs daily teller cash reconciliations.
  • Troubleshoots any out of balance drawers.

4. Provides support to Cash Operations Supervisor.

  • Provide day-to-day guidance, leadership, mentorship, motivation, train and development of staff.
  • Opens and closes the office when necessary.
  • Prepares bank deposits and daily cash reports.
  • Audits cash drawers and the vault when requested.
  • Prepares and provides training for new tellers.

5. Provides additional customer service.

  • Addresses escalated issues.
  • Conducts research and analysis for complex inquiries.
  • Provides follow up for customer related issues.
  • Maintains records of issues addressed.

6. Provides Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) responses.

  • Responds to IPRA requests related to tax payments.
  • Conducts research and review.
  • Assists with recording information for the Treasurer’s office in RecordBook.
  • Tracks and maintains timely responses for IPRA requests.

7. Leads Mobile Home Collections.

  • Prepares collection reports for other cashiers.
  • Maintains collection reports.
  • Addresses all mobile home collection inquires.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES.  Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS.

A.  Education.  High school diploma or equivalent.  Associate degree in related field preferred.

B.  Experience.  Three (3) years of full-time responsible and advanced administrative or responsible customer service cash handling work experience depending on functional area of assignment. One (1) year of specialized experience or training in high-volume cash receipting, balancing and reconciliation is required.  Related experience in local government preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

C.  Education/Experience substitution.  In accordance with County policy.

D.  Licenses/Certifications.  Valid unrestricted driver’s license. Must maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with County policy.

E.  Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver’s license record, etc.). Must pass background, driving record and credit check.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

Must have knowledge of: General office practices and procedures and use of office equipment; proper methods to maintain accurate records; proper cash handling and balancing procedures; proficient in 10-key calculator and general computer skills; and standardized word processing software and peripheral equipment to create edit and maintain standardized office documents.    

Must have skills in: Keyboarding; read, analyze, and apply state and local law, ordinances and regulations; address complex customer complaints; deal with a culturally diverse population; and establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with others.   

Must have the ability to:Navigate Workday, Eagle Treasurer, and Excel worksheets; perform repetitive tasks with minimal errors; calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions and percentages; read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals;write simple correspondence;effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization; evaluate facts or situations to determine appropriate action; handle sensitive and confidential matters professionally and tactfully; receipt or transmission of electronic mail; and update electronic calendars.

Compensation Range

$19.59 - $29.39
