Job Description

The Marcus Crisis Prevention Program (MCPP) Internal Trainer will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate education for staff, caregivers, schools, outside facilities, and healthcare companies on the use of the MCPP techniques. This individual will also proactively support the efforts that ensure the delivery of safe patient and client care and services, as well as promote a safe environment when working at the Marcus Autism Center and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Experience

  • 1 year of experience professional teaching or training in staff development, patient/family education, or community education; and/or undergraduate/graduate program teaching or training experience
  • Previous training in crisis prevention and theoretical understanding for supporting a patient, client, or student’s behavioral and mental health support needs required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of normal/abnormal growth and development throughout the age continuum
  • Experience with and knowledge of the prevention, assessment, management and treatment of complex behavior is highly preferred
  • Postgraduate degree highly preferred
  • Previous training in behavioral intervention strategies and trauma informed practices and theoretical understanding and philosophical appreciation for behavioral intervention in a clinical, medical, or educational setting is highly preferred
  • Experience working at the Marcus Autism Center

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, or allied discipline

Certification Summary

  • Certification in MCPP as an MCPP User and Master Trainer is required within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association within 30 days of employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be able to organize and manage time and manage multiple tasks
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess excellent presentation and training skills

Job Responsibilities

  • Independently or in combination with another MCPP trainer, conducts individual and group trainings on the use of the MCPP for both user and trainer courses. The primary focus will be on training Marcus staff, Children’s staff, and families of clients currently or previously served by the Marcus Autism Center. Training may also include external customers such as schools, providers and healthcare systems.
  • Staff will primarily provide training locally at Marcus and Children’s locations. When supporting external events, the staff will be expected to travel (both nationally and internationally). Depending upon the program’s needs, the trainer may travel 8-10 times per year. 
  • Conducts maintenance of documentation of training to include records and reports for active and past training cases, including timely and thorough completion of evaluation reports, progress notes, and any correspondence.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Marcus Autism Center and outside companies for training on MCPP, as needed.
  • May have the potential to provide care to patients via consultation services to home/school.
  • Support and manage training sessions for caretakers on crisis management strategies.
  • Assists with coordination of orientation of Marcus and Children’s new staff to department procedures and data collection procedures. Assists with coordination of the development of Marcus and Children’s staff/student training programs.
  • Provides educational activities and workshops to Marcus and Children’s staff on crisis prevention strategies.
  • Participates and supports education initiatives at the system level to ultimately result in improved quality of care to patients and families.
  • Performs other responsibilities as needed to support MCPP.
