Job Description

Facilitates a peer review subcommittee whose purpose is to review referrals regarding medical decision making and professionalism of physicians and advanced practice professionals. Demonstrates knowledge in Children's Healthcare of Atlanta professional staff rules and regulations, by-laws, policies, external regulatory agencies (e.g., Joint Commission), federal, and state laws. Partners with professional staff to facilitate the professional practice evaluation (peer review) process and promote a safe environment at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

Experience

  • 7 years of clinical RN experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Certified Legal Nurse Consultant (CLNC)

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing

Certification Summary

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact

  • Strong background in leadership, critical thinking, and process improvement
  • Self-motivated to follow through and organize multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Effectively manages and prioritizes a large caseload with other work responsibilities as relates to time management and completion of work
  • Excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills to interact with professional staff and senior leadership effectively
  • Ability to facilitate and lead one-on-one and group discussions
  • Skilled in diffusing reactive behavior
  • Knowledge of both hospital and medical staff standards, professional staff rules and regulations, by-laws, professional staff policy on credentialing, external regulatory agencies, and federal/state laws
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Job Responsibilities

  • Conducts case specific research on medical issues utilizing best practice standards.
  • Prepares chronologies of the clinical and/or behavioral events involved in a case.
  • Responsible for the oversight and facilitation of the assigned Peer Review Committees to ensure the process is followed.
  • Supports Peer Review Physician Leadership in their role as Committee Chair(s).
  • Maintains professional development by expanding clinical and professional knowledge as it relates to national best practice standards, interviewing and investigative skills.
  • Manages and coordinates all issues related to the Peer Review Process and ensures all information is correctly entered into the Peer Review database.
  • Prepares reports for the Peer Review Committees, Medical Executive Committee, and the Quality Committee of the Board.
  • Identifies potential patient safety risks as it relates to the Professional Staff by facilitating and trending “Lessons Learned” and/or “Opportunities for Improvement”.
  • Provides ongoing education to all system employees (including leadership) regarding the Peer Review Process.
  • Supports and participates in the achievement of organization directed department goals and quality initiatives.
  • Adheres to the HIPPA laws as they pertain to protected health information.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
