Job Summary:

Provides a variety of enforcement and protective services in the booking, detention, and transfer of arrested persons for the Kauai Police Department; assists officers with security and custodial tasks at the police facility; performs other related duties as required.

Examples of Duties:

  • Conducts booking procedures, takes fingerprints and photographs, and processes suspected offenders;

  • Performs sobriety testing;

  • Receives, stores, and accounts for personal properties of persons being held at detention cells;

  • Monitors and stands watch over detainees for unusual behavior and to prevent them from injuring themselves;

  • Maintains operational logs and performs other receiving desk duties;

  • Provides general information and assistance to the public and receives complaints over the telephone;

  • Assists patrol sector officers by investigating non­criminal complaints;

  • May assist arresting officers in taking custody and searching of suspects; may collect and preserve evidence;

  • Maintains the security of the main police building, equipment, and materials;

  • Directs traffic when necessary and issue citations for parking violations;

  • Escorts prisoners to court and/or prison within and outside the State;

  • Operates a motor vehicle and other equipment used on the job;

  • Equipped with firearm when escorting prisoners; prepares necessary reports;

  • Attends meeting, conferences, and workshops as requested and authorized; and

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Training & Experience:

 A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school, and

  • one (1) year of general work experience.

 

Qualifying General Work Experience:

 Any work experience which may involve the basic skills: reading, writing, computation and communication.

7 days/week operation; shift work (United States of America)
