Job Summary:

Performs as a trainee, receiving orientation and on-the-job training in the implementation and coordination of recycling and waste reduction programs; performs selected assignments relative to the County's recycling and waste reduction programs; and performs other related duties as required.

Examples of Duties:

  • Receives orientation in the functions, goals and objectives of recycling and waste reduction programs;
  • Learns the laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, guidelines, and work processes that govern or impact the County's recycling and waste reduction programs;
  • Observes higher-level specialists and assists in performing simple tasks designed to provide insight and knowledge in the application of basic principles, concepts, work processes and techniques;
  • Under close supervision and following specific instructions, assists in organizing, developing, implementing, and monitoring existing and proposed recycling and waste reduction programs, demonstration projects, and educational and promotional activities;
  • Assists in the dissemination of pertinent materials to schools, community groups and organizations;
  • Receives training and assists in conducting feasibility and system design studies through on-site inspection/investigation of facilities; assists in establishing and monitoring accounts relative to the various programs;
  • Processes registration forms and license applications;
  • Conducts research;
  • Compiles and evaluates data and statistics;
  • Maintains databases related to recycling programs;
  • Prepares correspondence and reports;
  • Responds to recycling queries from businesses, community groups and the general public; and
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Training & Experience:

A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a baccalaureate degree in business or public administration, urban planning, civil or environmental engineering, environmental science or public health or a related field.
