Temporary Student Apprentice
DESCRIPTION
To be successful as an apprentice, you must have great time management skills and be willing to fit into the existing staff structure. Outstanding apprentices are those who respond well to criticism, build good relationships with colleagues, and ultimately make a lasting impression.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Must be a rising high school senior.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Attend meetings, workshops, and participate in as many learning opportunities as possible.
Assist within the relevant department but also learn about other aspects of the Howard County Public School System.
Build professional relationships with colleagues.
Notify the employer of any absence or late arrival, including request for time off according to department policy.
Participate in progress/performance reviews.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must work a minimum of 450 hours throughout the school year (20 hours per week) of paid on-the-job training.
Complete one year of related classroom instruction that is identified by employer and Apprenticeship Coordinator.
Provide own transportation to the worksite and related instruction.
Working Hours
Student work hours/related instruction may extend beyond the school day.

SELECTION CRITERIA
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be included in further evaluation. Interviews will be limited to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the basic requirements, have experience and education which most closely match the position qualifications and the needs of the school system.
EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION
Compensation
This is a temporary position. The hourly rate of pay is $16.
Pre-Employment Requirements
Professional references will be contacted prior to any offer of employment. Recommended candidates will be required to provide references from current and recent supervisors.
All employees, regular and temporary, must be fingerprinted, have a criminal background investigation completed, and successfully complete the Maryland Employment History Review, pursuant to Section 6-113.2 of the Education Article, Annotated Code of Maryland. In addition, some positions will require completion of a physical examination and/or drug testing.
