Graduate Assistant - Dean's Office for the School of Education

Job Description:

The Graduate Assistant for the School of Education will support the communication and outreach efforts of the Dean. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of the field of education (e.g., certification requirements, certificate renewal requirements, difference between MAT and M.Ed.), strong oral and written communication skills, and facility with social media.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


The School has a goal to increase enrollment in its graduate programs (M.Ed. and MAT) so the proposed assistantship would support communication and outreach efforts.   Specific projects are listed below.  NOTE:  Graduate Assistant goals are bulleted under each project.

Social Media

  • Write posts with photographs on the School of Education Facebook page, at least once per week.
  • Manage the content on the School website to ensure that new content is posted each week.
  • Profile students and faculty for School website.
  • Maintain digital signage for Archbishop Borders Hall

Public Relations

  • Write press releases of graduate events (e.g., academic panels, speakers, service projects) to share with Communications for the FNP, Gettysburg Times, MSMU website, Mountain Echo.
  • Represent MSMU at Graduate Education Fairs within the state of Maryland.

Research

  • Collaborate with the Dean to collect and analyze research data for investigations being conducted by the School of Education.
  • Collaborate with the School to collect and analyze research data for investigations being conducted by individual faculty members.

Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Must be accepted into a graduate program at Mount St. Mary’s University.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required

*Professionals are called upon to communicate with varied audiences and through varied media (e.g., school website, presentations at meetings).  This position will further develop oral and written communication skills, organization skills, and technology skills.

Salary/Hours/Benefits

  • A stipend of $6000 per academic year.
  • 20 hours per week for 9 months (August – May)
  • Tuition Remission Benefits (2 courses in the fall and 2 courses in the spring).
