Job Summary

OPS Athletic Trainers will support the Sport Clubs Program by providing first aid and applicable skills at Sport Club home events, as well as acting as a liaison to spectators and visiting teams. The hours worked are typically on the weekends, Friday through Sunday.

Job Description

Typical duties include but not limited to:

  • Serve as an Athletic Trainer during Sport Club home competitions and events
  • Provide first aid, emergency care, and evaluate on-site injury during competitions and events
  • Attend to all injured participants by following basic First Aid and CPR protocols and remove athletes from play if necessary
  • Call or direct someone else to call 911 if injury occurs beyond your scope of practice
  • Complete injury reports to document after each event supervised
  • Aware of emergency exits, bathrooms and AED locations
  • Responsible for keeping all certifications current
  • Check facility for safety hazards; report any hazards to appropriate authority and take immediate action if necessary
  • Able to initiate the Emergency Action Plan
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of equipment for events including water coolers, ice, and tables
  • Answer questions from spectators and visiting teams to the best of your ability
  • Act as an ambassador and appropriately represent the FGCU University Recreation & Wellness
  • Always maintain an appropriate professional demeanor
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Positive attitude and desire to assist customers
  • Ability to work in a team and handle stressful situations in a calm manner
  • Available to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends
  • Thorough knowledge of the Sport Programs and University Recreation & Wellness policies and procedures

Certification Requirement:

  • Licensed as an Athletic Trainer in Florida.
  • Standard First Aid (American Red Cross –preferred). Certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
