Compounds and distributes medications as prescribed by a physician or care provider. In a clinical setting, collaborates with physicians or other care providers to promote positive patient outcomes through the use of appropriate pharmaceuticals.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the pharmaceutical care of patients, newborn through geriatric.
  • Provides drug information as requested and investigates/documents any clinical intervention.
  • Provides general supervision of pharmacy technicians.
  • Checks the accuracy of all medications prepared by the pharmacy technician prior to dispensing.
  • Completes, checks, and signs designated areas of paperwork required by law for policy.
  • Participates in training and staff development.
  • Maintains the pharmacy, equipment, and storeroom in a clean and sterile manner as required.
  • Submits daily orders for supplies as necessary.
  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.

Required License/Certifications/Registrations

  • Current Pharmacist license in the State of Kansas.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Pharmacy experience in a hospital environment.

Preferred License/Certifications/Registrations

  • Current BLS card within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation, whichever comes first. Acceptable courses are through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulatory policies governing pharmacies/pharmacists.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

Physical Requirements:

With or without accommodation.

  • Light Work: Occasionally exerting up to 25 lbs - frequently exerting up to 10 lbs. 11-25% of the day may be standing or walking.
