The Part-Time Logistics Technician supports the operational readiness of Reno County EMS by performing routine preventative maintenance, inventory management, and basic repair functions. This position plays a critical role in ensuring ambulances, support vehicles, patient transport equipment, and facility systems remain in safe, reliable working order. The Logistics Technician works closely with EMS leadership, field providers, and outside vendors to coordinate maintenance and supply needs.

Fleet & Equipment Maintenance

  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance checks on ambulances and EMS support vehicles.
  • Perform basic mechanical tasks, including fluid checks, light replacement, battery inspection, minor repairs, and upkeep of vehicle interiors/exteriors.
  • Coordinate and schedule vehicle service appointments with approved maintenance vendors.
  • Maintain accurate fleet maintenance logs, mileage tracking, and service intervals.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and perform minor repair on:
  • Stryker cots, stair chairs, and related patient movement devices
  • Non-specialized medical equipment (oxygen systems, suction units, monitors for basic issues)
  • Radios, MDTs, and computer-assisted dispatch/mobile CAD systems
  • Assist with installation, replacement, or basic repair of vehicle technology systems, including WAN-connected devices and EMS communication equipment.

Inventory & Supply Control

  • Manage and replenish medical supply inventory for ambulances, stations, and clinical support areas.
  • Ensure proper stock rotation, expiration monitoring, and tracking of high-use disposables.
  • Receive, inspect, and organize shipments of medical supplies and facility items.
  • Coordinate with vendors regarding supply orders, backorders, and pricing.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and compliant storage areas consistent with EMS standards.

Facilities Support

  • Perform basic facility maintenance such as changing light bulbs, minor repairs, simple paint touch-ups, and maintaining station equipment.
  • Coordinate with county facilities staff or contracted services for repairs beyond the scope of basic maintenance.
  • Support readiness of station equipment such as washers/dryers, oxygen cascade systems, and minor tool repairs.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain maintenance records in accordance with Kansas Board of EMS, HRMC, county, and agency requirements.
  • Assist with asset tracking, equipment lifecycle documentation, and replacement recommendations.
  • Support quality and safety initiatives by identifying hazards or equipment concerns.
  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

  • Basic mechanical proficiency with hand tools and diagnostic techniques.
  • Understanding of vehicle systems and routine mechanical care.
  • Ability to perform minor repair on EMS equipment (non-clinical).
  • Familiarity with radio systems, mobile data terminals, and vehicle-mounted computer/WAN devices.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to track work across multiple units and facilities.
  • Ability to lift and move moderate loads (up to 50 lbs.) safely.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Required License/Certifications/Registrations

  • Valid Kansas Driver’s License
  • CPR Training

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Education and Experience

  • EMT or higher level EMS Provider.

Preferred License/Certifications/Registrations

  • Stryker Service Technician

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic mechanical, facility maintenance, or logistics experience preferred.

  • Medium Work: Occasionally exerting up to 50 lbs - constantly exerting up to 10 lbs. 26-50% of the day may be standing or walking.
