THE OPPORTUNITY
As a representative of Babson College and the Stephen D. Cutler Center for Investments and Finance, Cutler Center Assistants provide critical support to students and faculty utilizing the finance lab. They also receive fundamental hands-on learning experiences and teaching opportunities. In support of the finance faculty, these students assist with research and help develop lecture materials and assignments that integrate the technologies of the lab. Cutler Center Assistants are also responsible for the design, development, and delivery of tutorials, which provide faculty, staff, and students with an introduction to the software applications and data feeds available in the Cutler Center to support increased utilization of the facility.
Cutler Center Assistants are undergraduate or graduate students employed by the Stephen D. Cutler Center for Investments and Finance to work in the finance lab. These students receive an hourly wage and are eligible to work up to 20 hours per week during the semester.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Cutler Center Assistants are expected to have a high level of proficiency using Cutler Center resources like Bloomberg, FactSet, and other finance-related data analytical tools. As such, Assistants are responsible for day-to-day support of other students using the Cutler Center finance lab.
- Cutler Center Assistants are responsible for demonstrating how students can access information available in the Cutler Center by helping others to (1) understand the functionality of the software applications and (2) do better on their assignments. Assistants are expected to help with general day-to-day questions, analytical tool access/issues, and advise students on best practices.
- Cutler Center Assistants are also asked to partner with faculty members by helping to facilitate classes being conducted in the finance lab, by being a helpful resource in the room or gathering and scrubbing data for research and developing course-related materials that integrate the Cutler Center resources.
- Cutler Center Assistants are encouraged to observe and offer up assistance to Faculty and students as necessary throughout the duration of a class.
- Responsible for developing tutorials over the course of the semester. These tutorials should be focused on the software applications available in the Cutler Center and provide in-depth instruction on specific functionality and navigation to help faculty and students better understand the software applications and data feeds available in the Cutler Center.
- Encouraged to conduct workshops throughout the semester to demonstrate the functionality of the software and emphasize its practical applications. These workshops are organized as part of the Cutler Center Finance Lab 101 Series.
- Responsible for general upkeep of the finance lab. This includes ensuring computers are turned on and functioning properly for students to use. Throughout the day, the Assistant should ensure that terminals not in use are logged off and that the computer equipment and furniture are organized and properly placed. At closing, Cutler Center Assistants should clean and organize the facility and make sure all doors are closed properly. Additionally, if scheduled to work in the Cutler Center after the conclusion of a class Assistants are expected to ensure the data feeds/LCD screens are promptly changed back from “Classroom Mode” to “Lab Mode”.
- Responsible for monitoring the Cutler Center to ensure that the resources are being used appropriately as a teaching and research tool.
- Responsible for escalating any IT or media issues in the room to the Cutler Center Program Manager or directly to the IT Help Desk.
- Expected to participate in open houses and other campus-related activities as needed to be available in the Cutler Center to welcome guests and provide an overview or hands-on demonstration of the resources and technologies available in the Cutler Center.
- Cutler Center Assistants may be asked to complete other ad hoc projects assigned by the Program Manager or Managing Director throughout the semester.
- Assume additional responsibilities as required.

WHAT EDUCATION AND SKILLS YOU WILL NEED
- Must have a high degree of proficiency using Cutler Center data analytical tools like Bloomberg, FactSet and other finance-related databases.
- Must have completed several finance courses and have developed a sound understanding of the financial markets.
- Must be pursuing, or have completed, a degree in one of the following disciplines:
- Finance
- Corporate Finance and Accounting
- Economics-Finance
- Mathematics or Statistics
- Must be a team player, with excellent communication skills and the ability to work with other students, faculty, and staff.
- Must have exceptional collaboration and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively engage with all levels within the College as well as guests visiting campus.
- Must have strong technology skills with hands-on experience using financial technologies, such as Bloomberg, FactSet, Capital IQ and others.
- Ability to work independently.

HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK
Working hours will vary. Requires some nights/weekends.
Expected on-site in the Cutler Center finance lab.
Students are eligible to work up to 20 hours per week during the semester.
