Position Summary

The Chief Pilot is the lead manager for the pilots & flight attendants reporting directly to the Director of Aviation. The Chief Pilot assigns and oversees the duties of flight and ground personnel. They ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations, including federal aviation regulations.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Remains informed of the latest developments within the business aviation community, including the CFRs, and other federal, state, local, and foreign regulations affecting operations.
  • Establishes and supervises the initial and recurrent training of aviation department personnel, both internally and externally with a professional training facility
  • Ensures that pilots assigned to a trip have been trained, qualified, and current for the aircraft and trip to be flown.
  • Maintains currency and proficiency as a PIC and performs duties as a flight crewmember when required
  • Instructs flight crews in the use of the standard operating procedures (SOP) manual and Company F.O.M (Flight Operations Manual).
  • Maintains all revisions and amendments within O.E.M Manuals.
  • Prepares and distributes periodic reports and statistics as required
  • Assists with the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts
  • Reviews the current budget implementation
  • Evaluates department expenditures incurred by subordinates
  • Supports the SMS (Safety Management System) and encourages personnel engagement

Required Skills

  • Ability to manage a team of people made up of full time and contract associates
  • Strong experience working with VVIP travel - domestic and international
  • Ability and experience managing long term scheduling and adjusting to short-notice changes
  • Thorough knowledge of all applicable Local, State and International requirements – both ICAO and CFR requirements
  • Able to provide training and performance evaluation of staff on an ongoing basis

Qualifications and Education Requirements

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be self-motivated and able to work independently while performing each essential duty and responsibility. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution & a minimum of 5 years of relevant flight experience OR the equivalent combination of education and experience in leadership within a Corporate Flight Department
  • MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point) – version 2010 or later
  • Permanent residence within 60 minutes of KFTY
  • Available 24/7/365
  • Current & valid and clean driver’s license & up-to-date passport
  • Willing to work nights, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary
  • Large cabin experience – Bombardier preferred
  • Confidentiality agreement required
  • Background check required
