Job Description Summary

This position provides day-to-day environmental compliance and operational support for the St. Louis Site EHS Department. The role focuses on routine monitoring, inspection activities, data tracking, and operational program support. The incumbent contributes to environmental stewardship by supporting waste management, wastewater compliance, emissions tracking, chemical approval workflows, and equipment-based environmental programs and various EHS training to site personnel. This position requires strong attention to detail, technical aptitude, and effective collaboration within an industrial manufacturing environment.

Job Description

Environmental Monitoring & Compliance 

  • Monitor, interpret, and implement chemical manufacturing regulatory requirements including OSHA 29 CFR 1910, PSM (1910.119), EPA RMP (40 CFR Part 68), TSCA, and other Federal State and Local regulations.
  • Manage compliance for chemical-related environmental permits (air, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste).
  • Oversee compliance with hazardous waste regulations (RCRA), including container management, waste profiling, labeling, manifesting, and biennial reporting.
  • Maintain chemical inventories and ensure compliance with EPCRA / Tier II, TRI, and SPCC regulations.
  • Act as site support during regulatory inspections (EPA, OSHA, state environmental agencies) and assist with coordination of follow-up actions.
  • Perform and document monthly environmental inspections across assigned operational areas; track findings and support corrective actions. 
  • Support monthly emissions tracking activities, including data collection, review, and reconciliation for internal and regulatory reporting. 
  • Coordinate and support wastewater compliance activities, including quarterly wastewater sampling. 
  • Manage facility pH monitoring programs, including routine checks, calibration verification, alarm response, and data trending. 
  • Assist in identifying, tracking, and resolving Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) issues in coordination with maintenance and operations. 

Waste & Chemical Management 

  • Process and coordinate new waste stream requests, including waste characterization, documentation, and approval routing. 
  • Manage waste stream recertifications by maintaining profiles, analytical data, and vendor documentation. 
  • Support the management of Ozone-Depleting Substance (ODS) appliances, including equipment tracking, maintenance records, and compliance documentation. 
  • Review and route new chemical requests to ensure environmental, health, and safety requirements are evaluated prior to approval. 
  • Support chemical spill response planning and coordinate with emergency response teams.
  • Participate in root cause analyses and ensure corrective/preventive measures are implemented.

Procedures, Documentation, and Program Support 

  • Assist with the review and update of EHS procedures, work instructions, and forms to maintain regulatory and operational alignment. 
  • Maintain environmental compliance records, inspection logs, and tracking databases. 
  • Provide administrative and field support for environmental audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and external vendors. 
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in chemical safety.
  • Recommend improvements to chemical storage, handling, and process safety systems.

Process Unit Assignment

  • Assignments to process units for general EHS housekeeping, permit writing, coordination of EHS related activities, such as RCAs, follow-ups and general support.
  • Perform periodic audits to ensure compliance with procedures and practices

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education required

Bachelor’s (B.S.) degree in Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene or a related technical discipline

Experience:

One to three (1–3) years of environmental or industrial experience; internships or cooperative education experience acceptable. 

Experience in manufacturing, chemical, or regulated industrial environments preferred. 

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of environmental compliance programs including waste management, wastewater systems, emissions tracking, LDAR, and chemical management.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to track and manage compliance-driven data.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with EHS management systems preferred. 
  • Ability to work in both office and industrial plant environments, including field inspections and extended walking or standing as required. 

Other Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to implement and achieve continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change with influence.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and Access.

Reporting Relationship:

This position reports to the EHS Director and works closely with site EHS staff and plant operations teams. This position also may interact with Federal, State and Local regulatory agencies and outside Counsel as needed.  The candidate must exhibit professionalism and have the ability to communicate effectively with various levels of plant and/or corporate management.
