JOB SUMMARY:

Under general direction, the instructor delivers one or more Electrical or Industrial apprenticeship training courses using various instructional methods, including in‑person, remote, hybrid, and online formats. Supports student learning by providing academic assistance, promoting participation in required On‑The‑Job Training, and tracking student progress. Responsibilities also include evaluating student performance, maintaining accurate academic records, and monitoring attendance to foster student success and program completion.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver course content in accordance with the approved course outline and syllabus to ensure students are adequately prepared for subsequent courses and program requirements.
  • Enforce all safety policies and procedures to maintain a safe learning environment.
  • Provide constructive and timely feedback to students regarding academic and practical performance.
  • Meet all assigned classes punctually and demonstrate enthusiasm and professionalism.
  • Develop and implement instructional activities that support effective learning and student engagement.
  • Plan, design, and conduct the required minimum number of laboratory exercises each semester.
  • Prepare and submit all required documentation, including class rosters, grade books, grade reports, and final examinations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, trade operations, and processes relevant to the discipline.
  • Comply with and uphold all college policies and procedures related to the position.
  • Represent the college professionally during school-related functions and activities.
  • Prepare instructional materials based on the Apprenticeship curriculum for classroom instruction.
  • Create a positive and supportive learning environment that motivates students and promotes academic success.
  • Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Working knowledge and skill of industrial trade principles, methods, and techniques;
  • Safety skills and the ability to use and maintain industry-related hand and power tools;
  • Knowledge of Computer/Technical Skills; Internet, Word, PowerPoint, Email, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Excel, Outlook
  • Must be a self-starter, creative in problem solving, exercise good judgments and ethics, and have superior customer service skills;
  • Excellent Communications skills;
  • High school diploma or its equivalent;
  • Minimum of four (5) years' experience in the Electrical trade; 
  • Preference shown to applicants with OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 Certification;
  • Prior teaching or training experience preferred;
  • Recommended: Have training in teaching techniques and adult learning styles.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to present verbal lectures/demonstrations, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds.  Some lifting of computer and electronic equipment may be required.  It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary.  IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
