Job Description:

Day Shift

The OR Scheduling Specialist is responsible for organizing, planning, directing, coordinating, and monitoring all activities and functions related to the perioperative data systems in a cost-effective manner. This position is also responsible for but no limited to:

  • Schedules patient elective surgical procedures with physician / surgeon offices according to OR Scheduling guidelines.

  • Collects the operative records, assesses for completeness and informs Patient Coordinator (PCC) of any deficiencies in the record.

  • Prepares surgery schedule daily and distributes as required; maintains communication with all parties involved with patient care in regards to schedule start times or any variances to scheduling of cases.

  • Enters all patient information in computer system and verifies accuracy of documentation with PCC. Maintains patient records from the previous day's activities.

  • Types reports, schedules, case logs, etc. as needed and files records as required in department filing system.

  • Responsible for positive customer relations and expected to anticipate and manage customer concerns in a courteous, compassionate manner.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: GED or High School Diploma required.

EXPERIENCE: Six months related experience and/or training preferred. Business and clerical skills, computer skills, and medical terminology preferred. Problem solving and organizing skills, ability to interact with multiple levels of personnel verbally, and ability for problem identification regarding scheduling issues preferred.
