The primary role of the EHS Specialist will be to collaborate with the HSE Manager to develop, implement, and sustain the safety programs that serve to protect the health and safety of employees at Gorbel’s US locations.  The EHS Specialist will use sound technical judgment, strong team-building and interpersonal skills to identify, assess, analyze, and resolve safety hazards in manufacturing and office environments.  They will provide safety expertise, day-to-day leadership, and execute safety-related activities.  Their goal will be to educate employees working throughout the company on how to work safely, how they can contribute to creating a safe work environment, and coach and develop them to implement and sustain safe work practices.  This role will focus primarily on improving safety and occupational health issues.  However, occasional environmental compliance activities will be required. 

The responsibilities of this role will include providing safety training and instruction, completing inspections and corrective actions, completing incident investigations, performing factory and equipment change assessments, participating on site safety teams, developing safety promotions and outreach activities, and managing safety rewards & recognition programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate with the HSE Manager to develop, document, and monitor company safety policies and procedures
• Develop and deliver trainings on workplace safety topics, including but not limited to; ladders, fall protection, hearing conservation, compressed gases, personal protective equipment, lockout-tagout, fire extinguishers, forklifts, overhead cranes, portable tools, hot work, hazard communication, and new hire safety
• Track and maintain employee training plans and training documentation to support regulatory compliance
• Monitor work areas for unsafe work or environmentally hazardous conditions, document observations, and collaborate with factory managers, supervisors, and factory personnel to identify and complete corrective actions
• Review new equipment and changes to existing equipment and processes to ensure safety of employees
• Support factory managers, supervisors, and factory personnel who perform injury, first aid and near miss investigations to identify root cause, contributing causes, and corrective actions
• Collaborate with supervisors to administer weekly safety talks, safety alert announcements, and other safety instructions
• Participate on local Safety Committees with the purpose of identifying, developing, and administering safety promotions and outreaches within the company, as well as facilitate monthly inspections performed by Safety Committee inspection teams
• Manage the company’s employee and supervisor safety reward programs
• Assist HR Business Partners to assess injured employees and identify light duty and other RTW opportunities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in the field of safety, industrial hygiene, or a scientific field with safety or industrial hygiene work experience and minimum of 3-5 years working in the safety field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience leading teams and managing projects in a manufacturing environment
• Strong knowledge of OSHA rules and regulations as described in General Industry Standards, 29 CFR 1910 and ability to read, understand, and interpret similar regulatory standards
• Working knowledge of federal environmental regulations
• Strong organizational, time-management, and planning skills with an ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to work independently and maintain a close attention to detail
• Strong interpersonal and active listening skills with an ability to influence others and inspire commitment
• Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with others in many different organizational roles
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience identifying, creating, and implementing safety awareness programs and outreaches
• Working knowledge of state environmental regulations governing Gorbel’s facilities located in New York, Alabama, and/or Arizona
• Working knowledge of basic Workers Compensation practices and policies
• Certification in basic First Aid, CPR/AED, and BBP
• Experience with industrial hygiene equipment and basic sampling procedures
• Knowledge of ergonomic principles; experience conducting ergonomic analysis
• Experience interacting with employees working multiple shift operations, at locations in different time zones
