Assistant Director of Development

The Assistant Director of Development is responsible for assisting the Director of Development with achieving fund raising, resource development, donor retention and cultivation goals for Syracuse Area Services. The ADOD works as part of the development team by providing support, resources, project management and oversite to the SAS team in the absence of the Director of Development as well as help oversee the day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities
- Soliciting event sponsors and in-kind vendors.
- Maintain existing media relationships and cultivate new contacts for the organization.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive database of press, media, and community communication.
- Event Planning: Develop, organize, maintain, and manage existing fundraisers, new events, and
special events. Responsible for new events from concept to completion, ensuring they operate
smoothly, efficiently, and achieve maximum revenue and exposure.
- Ensure the highest levels of customer service are engaged when special needs/requests of volunteers and donors are presented to include address corrections, answering questions and providing specific information.
- Maintain a close working relationship with staff as well as with outside contacts and officers to ensure maximum results from all aspects of partnerships and programs
- Liaison with all facility directors and venues
- Event budgeting and invoicing
- Assist in the development of media, marketing materials, announcements, and media relations.
- Coordinates communications and marketing in support of special events and major donor and business partner solicitation and cultivation;
- Coordinates production and distribution of event promotional needs (relevant collateral, scripts, web publication, social media management, videos, presentations, media coverage and public relations), as well as audio/visual needs.
- Maintain files.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or extensive college coursework with equivalent experience, with a minimum of one year professional experience in a mature Development department with a track record of increasing responsibilities and good breadth of familiarity with various fund raising disciplines.
- Must have excellent computer skills and effectively use email and Microsoft Office applications and learn the donor management software.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be an excellent writer and researcher, able to effectively articulate a compelling case (proposals) and results (reports).
- Attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and success in managing multiple projects.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Valid Driver’s License that meets The Salvation Army insurance requirements.
- Previous experience in fundraising helpful.
- A strong grasp of the specific disciplines within development is a plus.
