Looking for highly motivated students who want to make a difference in the community. You will be working with local students in 7th-12th grade to tutor and mentor them in various subject matter. Students will have an information session with the Director/Assistant Director before they start their role.DEPARTMENT: STEP - Science and Technology Entry Program
LOCATION: Kenney Center for Community Engagement and Outreach
STUDENT SUPERVISORS: Kevin Trigonis
WORK AVAILABLE: Week Days/Possible Weekends
RATE OF PAY: $12.70/hr
The Science and Technology Entry Program was established in 1985 by the NYS Legislature to prepare historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students for entry into post-secondary degree programs in math, science, technology, health-related fields, and licensed professions.
POSSIBLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Tutor students in grades 7-12 to enhance their academic support system
· In-person Mentor at Schenectady Middle Schools (Tuesday/Thursday 3-5pm)
· Help run Saturday STEM workshops (usually 9am-1pm)
· Report notes to the STEP Staff
· Help with administrative work within the department
· Create programming and experiences for the STEP Students
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
· Looking for personable, trustworthy and detail-oriented individuals
· Great overall communication skills
· Able to communicate well in-person, over the phone, or over Zoom
· Must be passionate about working with students in grades 7-12
· Proficient with utilizing Zoom and Excel
