Job Summary

Under limited supervision, performs machine operations and production duties following established procedures in the following areas:

Essential Functions

  • Tends mixing machines and related equipment to compound and process raw materials according to formula.

  • Must follow process order to add material in specified quantities and times. 

  • Dumps, pours, pumps or scoops them into the machine or tank. 

  • Weighs, meters, compounds, and mixes product.

  • Responsible for accuracy in weight and mixing of product formula work order.

  • Sanitizes equipment and utensils.

  • Cleans and sanitizes manufacturing equipment.

  • Tests raw materials and finished product.

  • Packages finished product.

  • Control temperature, consistency, and other product characteristics in formulation stage. 

  • Observe temperatures, record batch information, and take samples for QA. 

  • Handle heavy bags and drums.

  • Operate mechanized mixing equipment.

  • Constantly observe and note equipment operation and product behavior for any deviation from expected norm. 

  • Follow all FDA, GMP, and EHS policies and procedures that relate to assigned job.

  • Keep area organized, clean, and in a sanitary condition. Perform equipment clean-outs and special sanitation as required.

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); six to nine months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Prefer some college level coursework in basic sciences and knowledge of basic Chemistry concepts.

  • Previous experience mixing raw materials or other job related experience is a plus.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Good verbal and written communication skills are necessary.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • The ability to conduct basic laboratory experiments.

  • Ability to accurately weigh materials from the milligram scale to the kilogram scale. 
     

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear. 

  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, accommodation, color vision, and field of vision.  Good hand/eye coordination is required.

  • May be exposed to considerable noise from machinery.

  • May be required to pass a pre-employment lift test and physical.
