Summary:

Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring product and process quality across all phases of the product lifecycle, from prototype and launch through SOP and engineering changes. The role ensures compliance with customer requirements, internal procedures, and applicable automotive industry standards. The Quality Engineer has authority to stop production or shipments when there is a risk of nonconforming material reaching the customer.

Key Responsibilities and Main Activities:

  • Tooling and Equipment Release
    Release all tooling and production equipment across the entire manufacturing line, from pre-assemblies to post-operations equipment. This applies to prototype builds, new product launches, and engineering changes.
  • PPAP Coordination
    Coordinate the PPAP (Production Part Approval Process), compile complete PPAP documentation packages, and submit them to customers in accordance with agreed timelines.
  • PSW and IMDS Approval Management
    Request, track, and follow up on PSW and IMDS approvals for components until 100% approval status is achieved.
  • Work and Measurement Instructions
    Develop and maintain work instructions for inspection, measurement, and testing equipment to ensure consistent and accurate quality execution.
  • Quality Planning Activities
    Perform quality planning activities such as connector analysis, CTQ identification, gage planning, and completion of launch quality documentation folders.
  • Prototype Inspection and Customer Support
    Inspect prototype parts, define inspection methods, and follow up with customers on quality performance during prototype, pre-launch, and SOP phases.
  • Customer System Management
    Upload required documentation and monitor on-time completion of quality planning activities within customer-specific systems.
  • Special Characteristics Definition
    Define special product characteristics based on customer requirements, DFMEA, historical data from previous phases, and warranty or field issue information (CTQs).
  • Production Inspection Systems
    Define and implement inspection systems for each production line, including self-inspections, progressive and successive inspections, and visual aids.
  • Lessons Learned Implementation
    Ensure proper implementation of all applicable electrical group lessons learned in current and future programs.
  • Engineering Change Monitoring
    Track and ensure quality performance of production lines during all engineering changes or model updates.

  • Quality Network Planning
    Plan and deploy the Quality Network for each launch phase to ensure robust quality control and escalation paths.
  • Customer and Standard Compliance
    Understand and ensure compliance of processes and products with customer specifications and applicable industry standards.
  • Line and Shipment Stop Authority
    Exercise authority to stop production lines or shipments when there is a risk of nonconforming material reaching the customer.

Experience/Skills

Professional Career

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field).

3+ years of Quality Engineering experience in automotive manufacturing (preferably wiring harnesses or electrical systems).

Languages

Spoken and Written English

Knowledge:

PPAP, APQP, FMEA, Control Plans

IMDS, PSW, customer-specific requirements

ISO 9001 / IATF 16949

Measurement systems and inspection methods

Automotive customer portals
