Position Summary:

The Manager Property Tax is responsible for overseeing various aspects of the payment compliance process and accounting related functions.  This includes overseeing and/or preparing property tax analysis, planning, reporting and partnership with internal and external business vendors. The Manager Property Tax will work with senior management to help ensure the minimization of the property tax liability through sound and informed application of property tax laws and regulations.    

Essential Functions:

  • Interfaces directly with 3rd party payment processor and accounting to reconcile payments and accruals

  • Oversee the processing of tax notices tax bills upon request

  • Coordinates and communicates with management and other members of the department to ensure proper tax reporting and treatment

  • Identifies, develops and executes companywide property tax planning objectives

  • Ensures appropriate application of all property tax laws companywide to effectively minimize liabilities, risks and exposures

  • Assists as required with property tax audits

  • Implements integrated and efficient property tax policies and practices

  • Integrates tax objectives with company’s overall financial goals, objectives, policies and procedures

  • Facilitates state-of-the-art record-keeping capabilities and associated database to ensure efficiencies and the availability of comprehensive and accurate information for analysis and decision making

  • Integrates the property tax record-keeping with accounting systems

  • Keeps informed on property tax procedures and laws

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience required

  • Minimum of three to five years of relevant tax experience with an emphasis on property tax with a strong technical background in accounting

  • Real estate valuation and/or taxation courses and designations preferred

Ability to

  • be well organized to manage multiple appeals in multiple jurisdictions concurrently 

  • apply policies and procedures to solve every day and/or complex company issues

  • define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions 

  • interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables 

  • demonstrate leadership skills to influence results and institute change both with and without specified direction 

  • demonstrate an understanding of increasingly complex tax concepts and effectively apply tax knowledge to business situations

  • demonstrate and execute practical and effective solutions to problems

  • quickly evaluate and analyze financial and tax information using critical thinking

  • manage a workload to develop efficient and effective processes that impact the organization, and to communicate with managers and staff at all levels of the organization 

  • adjust plans and schedules to respond to crisis situations and to withstand pressure attributable to meeting the changing needs of company executives

  • Experience and expertise in project planning and management; in analysis of operations for the purpose of proposing innovative solutions to problems; and in organizing, writing, and editing information to make it meaningful to a wide array of audiences, including high level executives

  • A strong work ethic, integrity, and good business acumen 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to manage relationships with various prospects, clients, and partners in order to effectively present information to and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and various taxing authorities as well as to write reports and business correspondence

  • Knowledge of ad valorem taxation and knowledge of real estate valuation concepts

  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications including knowledge of PC, spreadsheets, word processing and database applications. 

  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license unless otherwise noted
