Position Summary
As a Retail Bootfitter 2, you will be instrumental in delivering an outstanding guest experience by combining advanced technical knowledge, personalized service, and hands-on fitting expertise. You will assess the physical needs, style, and performance goals of each guest, guiding them to ski or snowboard boots that fit correctly, perform well, and support their time on the mountain. You’ll apply complex modifications, perform repairs, and offer custom enhancements as needed to ensure comfort, safety, and optimal performance. In addition to guest-facing responsibilities, Retail Bootfitter 2 is responsible for training and leading workshops on boot sales and bootfitting practices as directed by the Retail Sales Manager, coaching Retail Bootfitter 1 on errors made during the bootfitting process, and fixing or improving the work of Retail Bootfitter 1 to uphold service quality and technical standards. This role requires deep product knowledge, a strong understanding of biomechanics and fit principles, and the ability to lead by example while mentoring others and maintaining a high level of personal performance.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
Boot Fitting Expertise
Conduct professional boot fittings using knowledge of foot anatomy, biomechanics, and ski/snowboard boot technology. Perform assessments including foot shape, arch, alignment, stance, and pressure points to ensure proper fit and on-mountain performance.
Customer Service
Provide exceptional service by greeting guests warmly, actively listening to their needs, and delivering personalized advice. Explain fit recommendations clearly and support guests in making confident, informed decisions.
Product Knowledge
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of ski and snowboard boot models, liners, footbeds, and fit technologies (e.g., heat-molding, shell materials, dual-density liners, etc.). Stay current on industry trends and tech to better guide guests and upsell where appropriate.
Customization & Adjustments
Perform boot modifications including liner molding, shell punching/stretching, cuff alignment, heel lifts, canting, and trimming. Build or modify footbeds and insoles to address specific fit or biomechanical issues.
Sales Support
Support the sale of ski and snowboard equipment and accessories, such as socks, footbeds, and protective gear. Assist customers on the floor with product recommendations beyond boots when needed.
Guest Experience
Engage with guests to understand their skiing or riding ability, goals, pain points, and terrain preferences. Deliver a tailored experience that maximizes comfort, performance, and satisfaction.
Inventory & Merchandising
Help maintain clean, organized, and visually appealing displays in the boot and hardgoods areas. Monitor stock levels, track work orders and repairs, and ensure all fitting tools and equipment are properly maintained and functional.
Workshop Operations
Ensure proper and safe use of bootfitting tools (heat guns, stretchers, punches, grinders, etc.) and maintain cleanliness and organization in the fitting area. Record fit adjustments and track modifications as needed for guest follow-up.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with the retail floor team, tuning shop, and rental department to create a seamless and efficient guest experience. Communicate fit issues or follow-ups clearly across departments when applicable.
Flexibility & Reliability
Support operations during busy periods with flexibility in scheduling, including weekends, holidays, and peak season hours. Take initiative in downtime to clean, organize, or assist teammates.
Secondary Function
When not actively engaged in boot fitting or related primary duties, the Bootfitter will serve as a flexible support resource on the retail floor. This includes assisting with alpine hardgoods sales—offering expert guidance on skis, bindings, and accessories—and stepping into the Demo Center as needed during peak times or at the request of supervisory staff. This “roving” role helps ensure smooth operations and a consistently high level of guest service across departments.
