OVERVIEW OF MESA COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICESEssential Duties

Client Engagement and Career Coaching
Builds trust and rapport using active listening and a participant-centered approach
Guides individuals in setting realistic employment goals and developing job search strategies
Interprets assessments and labor market information to support informed career decisions
Program Compliance and Policy Interpretation
Applies Federal, State and local policies to ensure participant eligibility and program adherence
Reviews, analyzes, and verifies work search activities and required documentation
Identifies issues that may impact Unemployment Insurance benefits and provides participants with appropriate guidance and contact information for the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment’s Unemployment Insurance Division.
Case Coordination and Documentation
Maintains accurate, timely, and compliant case records across multiple systems
Demonstrates strong attention to detail in data entry, file management, and documentation standards.
Manages multiple participant cases simultaneously while maintaining organization, accuracy, and timely follow-up.
Resource Navigation and Problem Solving
Assesses barriers to employment and connects individuals to appropriate workforce and community resources
Navigates complex systems to provide coordinated support
Uses critical thinking to address participant needs and troubleshoot challenges
Collaboration and Systems Coordination
Works effectively with internal teams to provide holistic services to participants
Participates in statewide alignment efforts and contributes to service delivery improvements
Shares information and supports consistency across programs and partners
Customer Service and Communication
Communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing
Provides responsive, respectful, and human-centered service
Adaptability and Continuous Improvement
Adjusts to changing policies, systems, and program requirements
Demonstrates flexibility in service delivery and problem-solving approaches
Contributes to ongoing improvements in processes and participant experience
Performs other related duties as assigned, consistent with the scope and intent of the position
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Core Competencies
We value experience in social work, career counseling, human resources, or any field that requires regulatory compliance and person-centered service. We are looking for someone who has the capacity to remain calm and professional while assisting individuals who may be experiencing high levels of stress or frustration. Individuals must demonstrate the following competencies:
Ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused in high-stress or emotionally charged situations
Strong communication skills, including clear verbal and written communication with diverse individuals
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess situations and determine appropriate next steps
Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate and compliant documentation
Interpersonal effectiveness, including building rapport and working collaboratively with participants, team members, and partners
Adaptability and ability to navigate changing systems, policies, and priorities
Experience
Individuals typically develop these competencies through approximately two (2) years of experience in fields such as:
Social work or human services
Career counseling or workforce development
Human resources
Case management, eligibility, or compliance-driven roles
Other positions requiring person-centered service, regulatory compliance, and multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.
While performing the essential functions of this job conditions such as fumes, noxious odors,
mists, gasses, and poor ventilation that affect the respiratory system, eyes, or the skin.
Employee may be exposed to disease of known or unknown origin, blood-borne pathogens, body
fluids and tissue, the threat of direct or indirect violence/conflict by other individuals, and other
unanticipated circumstances associated with the position.
Employees on occasion encounter unsanitary conditions in the home of the program participant.
