Position Summary:

The Retail Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of documentation and other information. This position requires knowledge of the month-end close process over the balance sheet, income and expense accounts and the ability to problem-solve under limited on-site supervision. Additional responsibilities include duties related to inventory count and cost accuracy. Responsibilities include the separate reporting of retail operations as assigned.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promotes superior guest service.

  • Maintains, and perpetuates a positive organizational culture according to the principles of the Spirit of Tâlícn and the Core Values of ilani.

  • Prepares general journal entries.

  • Reviews journal entries and supporting documents prepared by staff accountants for accuracy and completeness.

  • Prepares reconciliations for all retail operation general ledger accounts.

  • Completes monthly departmental financial reports and conducts analysis and research of budget vs. actual variances to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Prepares separately stated retail financial reports on a daily, monthly, and annual basis as needed.

  • Complete daily sales closing duties to include cash register balancing, lottery transaction entry, fuel reconciliation, purchase processing verification, cash on hand reconciliation, and inventory changes.

  • Ensure that on-site point-of-sale information is accurately reported in a cloud-based financial reporting system.

  • Ensure the input manual inventory information into the tracking system related to fuel, tobacco, and lottery are accurate.

  • Ensure that invoices are uploaded manually into a cloud-based tracking system and monitor inventory items for accuracy.

  • Ensure the timely reconciliation of credit card receipts, discounts, and cash.

  • Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of fleet, gift card, and discounted sales.

  • Print reports used to support the completion of the daily close.

  • Act as liaison between Finance and Retail management for key initiatives or other changes in processes to ensure accuracy of financial reporting.

  • Preparation and distribution of weekly and monthly key performance reports.

  • Maintain a system of cycle counts and ensure they are performed as needed (daily, weekly, monthly) with the assistance of retail store staff.

  • Assist the Financial Reporting team with month-end close and calculations related to inventory on-hand, cash-on-hand, and lottery liabilities.

  • Attend required company training and meetings.

  • Follows department policies and procedures in accordance with corporate policies and regulatory guidelines.

  • Maintains the strictest confidence of all confidential information.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of all assigned areas.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Four-year degree in accounting or related field with an emphasis in accounting from an accredited university or equivalent education and experience.

  • Three (3) years of accounting duties in a supervisory position such as Controller or Accounting Manager

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to foster a supportive and enabling team environment.

  • Experience preparing financial statements to include income statement, balance sheet, and cash flows.

  • Thorough knowledge of financial and accounting principles and familiarity with GAAP.

  • Knowledge of accounting principles related to inventory and cost of goods sold.

  • Knowledge of concepts related to accountability, security, and accuracy of financial reporting. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.

  • Must be able to work in a 24/7, fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.

  • Must be able to sit in front of a computer screen for extended periods.

  • Must be able to maneuver narrow corridors and lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours to include occasional nights and weekends as dictated by the needs of the operation.

  • Must be willing to work in a smoking environment.

  • Must be willing to adhere to company health and safety measures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of accounting duties in a retail environment.

  • Experience in a gaming and/or hospitality environment.

  • Experience in preparing internal financial reports.

  • Experience with Workday.

  • Experience in a gas station environment.

  • Experience with PetroSoft and Gilbarco systems.

  • Experience tracking and monitoring inventory in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook.
