Job Summary

The Minority Engineering and Science Improvement Program STEM-Squared (MSEIP-STEM2) program at Texas A&M International University needs professional tutors. The successful applicant will have the following duties:

  • Undergraduate Research Assistants are expected to perform academic research under the direction of a faculty member or related to the STEM field and the MSEIP-STEM2 grant activities and are encouraged to disseminate their results at a professional conference. Students are required to submit a mid-semester progress report and a final report that follows a standardized Journal publication format in that field. Students must present at the MSEIP Capacity Competitiveness Enhancement Model (CCEM) Conference. The assigned work might change based on need.

Minimum Requirements

  • Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate.

  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students.

  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).

  • Student must be a Junior or Senior.

Preferred Experience and Education

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong computer knowledge in engineering software.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with university students, staff, and the general public.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to prepare and conduct an engineering experiment, present their finding, and deliver conclusions.

Other Requirements

  • Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.

  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.

  • Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule.

  • Promptly complete all required trainings.

  • Submit time sheet biweekly.

  • Some evening and weekend work may be required.

  • Subject to funding and/or need.

  • Curriculum Vitae.

  • 1-page cover letter addressing interest in the position and qualifications.

  • At least three current professional references and their full contact information.

Pay of Rate: $12.50/hour for up to 19 hours weekly
