$20.31 - $27.42The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Responsibilities:
Performs a diversity of technical assignments which are broadly outlined, require some theoretical insight and occasionally require the interpretation of results. Exercises complex skill and judgment, and knowledge of the principles and methods of a technical field. Serves as a resource to physicians, nurses and other laboratory personnel regarding specimen handling and processing.POSITION SUMARY:
Under the supervision of the Surgical Pathology Supervisor, the Laboratory Support Tech will perform pre and post analytical support activities to the Histology laboratory. Activities include slide distribution, record keeping, quality assurance, inventory, stainer and processor maintenance, computer documentation, and general laboratory maintenance.
SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION RECEIVED:
Under the direct supervision of the Surgical Pathology Supervisor, but may receive direction from other technical supervisors in Surgical Pathology.

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Standard office equipment such as telephone, PCs, Laboratory Information System (LIS), Hospital Information Systems, Microsoft Office. Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as stainer, cover slipper, chemical reagents, glassware, measuring devices and other equipment similar in scope and complexity.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organizes and triages slides to Surgical Pathology and Autopsy Faculty and Residents based upon subspecialty and schedule. 40% Maintains daily, weekly, monthly maintenance of H&E stainers and tissue processors. 25% Assists in record-keeping related to temperature monitoring, maintenance, and inventory. 10% Assists in support duties in other areas of surgical pathology as needed. 10% Maintains tissue blocks files when necessary. Maintains record of blocks pulled. 10% Performs other activities as requested. 5%
REQUIREMENTS:
Associate degree in a related science with course work in Anatomy, and Physiology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Laboratory experience is preferred.
