Compensation Range:

$17.00 - $22.10

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Responsibilities:

The Summer Writing Camp Activity Leader helps the lead teacher and faculty director run the one-week camp, including helping to plan activities, theme, and pace for the week-long camp. They lead all of the activities that make up a day (and week) of writing camp.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead camp activities: Whole group activities including: Icebreakers; daily writing reflections; writing exercises on genre (e.g., 2-voice poetry), composition (e.g., dialogue), setting goals, choosing a book title and book cover design; writing author bios for the book which will be published after camp concludes.
  • Leading /participating in additional activities – improv workshop, creating book covers, prophetic prose poetry, open mic practice, individual writing conferences
  • Preparing writers for the open mic on the last day of camp – choosing the piece they will read aloud, coaching on public speaking, establishing the order of readers
  • Preparing for camp: Schedule of activities, responsibilities, assembling swag bags, ordering snacks
  • Camp orientation: Welcome students, establishing camp norms and procedures; tour of building, introduce camp theme.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s Degree and less than 1 year of experience required
  • Master’s degree in Education/Teaching English preferred
  • English classroom teaching
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience required


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Instruction for writing, speaking, listening required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Teaching English preferred
