About us

Southern Cross Health Insurance is shaping a healthier Aotearoa New Zealand. Our purpose is simple: empowering our members to live well for longer. We're here to give peace of mind through timely access to quality care, inspire healthier living, and lead positive change across the health system. As a New Zealand-owned, member-based organisation, we're building a future where wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do -- delivering exceptional value for our members and creating an environment where our people thrive.

Now is an exciting time to join us. You'll be part of a high-performing, values-driven team where people are at the heart of everything we do -- and in return for your talent, you'll have the opportunity to grow, make an impact, and be proud of the difference your work makes.

About the role

If you've recently finished a quantitative degree and want to start your career somewhere your technical skills genuinely matter, this could be the role for you.

As a Graduate Pricing & Modelling Analyst at Southern Cross, you'll work on real statistical models that shape how we price our products and serve our members. This is the entry point into our pricing pathway - a team that takes analytical craft seriously and invests in the people who join it.

You'll sit across two areas of work. On the pricing side, you'll monitor portfolios, support regular price reviews, and contribute to broader pricing strategy and initiatives. On the modelling side, you'll help build and maintain advanced statistical models, develop monitoring frameworks, and stay close to emerging research and techniques.

You'll also be expected to communicate what you find - clearly, to both technical and non-technical audiences - and to look for ways to improve how we work as you go.

This is a role for someone who's curious, detail-oriented, and ready to grow quickly.

What You'll Bring

  • A degree (or postgraduate qualification) in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Data Science, or a closely related quantitative discipline - with a strong academic record

  • A genuine interest in statistical modelling and pricing, not just data broadly

  • Some programming exposure in R or Python and SQL - you don't need to be an expert, but you need to be comfortable getting there

  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Internship or work experience in an analytical environment is a plus, particularly in insurance, finance, or actuarial fields

A cover letter is required. We want to hear why pricing specifically interests you over and above your interest in data. Please also include your academic average in your cover letter.
