Job Title: Resource Specialist

Department: Resource

Manager: LaTaunya Malone

Schedule: Day Shift (8am-8:30pm)

Compensation: Hourly / Non-exempt

Job Summary: The Resource Specialist is responsible for responding to crisis situations for the Agency.   In this capacity, the Resource Specialist will provide assistance to staff by role modeling, teaching appropriate responses and completing program implementation.

Responsibilities

Dependable

  • Completes several random visual checks to all units and building during assigned working hours.
  • Remains actively engaged in client supervision, competently monitoring activities on campus or in the assigned unit.

Active

  • Effectively responds to and manages crisis situations for all Damar programs - taking the leadership role in de-escalation and/or intervention when needed.
  • Initiates special precautions for clients that exhibit and meet high risk behavior criteria.
  • Takes appropriate action regarding any events that affect the mental and physical well-being of the residents, including but not limited to, providing client and staff support, informal training and crisis management.
  • Understands behavior support plans for high acuity clients.
  • Assists in providing transportation for clients in an event of behavioral concern.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Actively participates in and/or oversees data collection and the use of data to improve outcomes, practices and service delivery.

  • Seeks the best use of materials, equipment and staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Prioritizes duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth.

Accountable

  • Seeks appropriate COC approval for restraints/seclusion and ensures ESI packet is thoroughly completed.
  • Collects, reviews, and enters incident reports to electronic database.
  • Attends mandatory quarterly training designed to increase skills and adheres to Resource Code of Conduct.
  • Ensures policies and procedures are followed by employees and takes prompt and appropriate action to correct violations.
  • Maintains written documentation of all pertinent information occurring during assigned shifts and promptly routes important information to appropriate professional.
  • Provides appropriate visual and written approval to restrictive intervention according to regulatory guidelines.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Handbook and Damar Operational Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Attends mandatory staff meeting and other meetings as assigned.
  • Completes and updates mandatory training and other licensure related items in a timely manner.
  • Maintains documentation that is accurate and legible.
  • Completes incident reports, including reporting any suspected exploitation, abuse, or neglect of a client.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Experience:
  • Must have six months of full-time experience working with behavioral challenges and/or individuals identifying with the DD/ID population. Equipment Familiarity:
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications including: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Certifications, Licenses or Special Training:

  • Minimum age of 21 depending on program and/or department requirements.
  • Must meet and maintain background screening requirements for all Damar Programs as detailed in policy 1.HR.02 Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks.
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving).
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen and physical required. 

Abilities:

  • Ability to follow and execute specific verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to promote and maintain positive interaction with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to complete medication administration training before passing medications.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification if working in children’s residential home/unit licensed by Dept. of Child Services (DCS).
  • Ability to physically manage and restrain clients when necessary, including ability to assist in lifting, maneuvering, and physically supporting individuals up to 200 pounds; ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Significant experience working with DIDD population in a residential setting.
  • Strong decision-making skills to be able to handle emergency situations in a professional and appropriate manner.
