Graduate Assistant - Palmieri Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE)

Job Description:

The Palmieri Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE) is a newly regenerated Center at Mount St. Mary’s University established with a monetary gift from Paul and Diane Palmieri. Initially launched in the 2017-2018 academic year.
The goal of the Center, as stated in the gifting Memorandum of Agreement with the Palmieri’s, is below:

“The Palmieri Center for Entrepreneurship at Mount St. Mary’s University fosters entrepreneurial thinking across all academic disciplines and provides students with distinctive educational opportunities to start new businesses, to connect with newly-formed startups, and to be innovative in larger, established organizations. The Palmieri Center enhances the university’s entrepreneurship curriculum by sponsoring programs that connect students to successful entrepreneurs and to the culture of innovation.” Additionally, serving an outreach function for the university, “the Palmieri Center for Entrepreneurship works with local organizations to promote entrepreneurial activity and to provide educational resources.”

The PCE Director also has responsibility for promoting the Entrepreneurship academic program, advising entrepreneurship students and developing a “fully self-sustaining program on Entrepreneurship over a 3 – 5 year period.”
The purpose of this Graduate Assistantship request is to secure PCE assistance to help accomplish the stated goals for the Center and academic program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Graduate student (potentially from any discipline, business preferred) with an interest in, and general understanding of, Entrepreneurship.
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of multiple social media platforms and the Microsoft suite of computer applications (skills in design software also valuable).
  • Strong interpersonal relationship and communication skills (both written and oral communications), and professionalism.
  • Professional, motivated person with strong work ethic, positive personality and ability to work independently.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate occasional evening and weekend programming.

Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:

  • Marketing - including print and graphic layout and design to build the student’s capacity in this key technical skill needed in business.
  • Public Relations – building relationships and alliances within the university and regional community. Supports the ability to build networks and collaborative working relationships in the business world.
  • Interpersonal communications - including public speaking, small group and one-on-one presentations and mentoring, phone, and email protocol. This supports the MBA program objective of obtaining “effective oral and written communication skills through contemporary technologies.”
  • Keeping current on optional social media presence and protocols to create and enhance awareness of the Center and its programs. Helps develop, or maintain, facility in using current B2C and B2B digital communications technologies.
  • Entrepreneurial knowledge and skills development through research, in-person and online learning opportunities, engagement with entrepreneurs and attendance at PCE events. Helps develop an understanding of the multiple roles of business in society.

GA Goals:

  • Create a positive, professional presence both in person, online and in printed communications
  • Apply skills and abilities to various tasks and projects simultaneously, developing and enhancing skills in the process
  • Develop and implement original ideas enhancing the value of the PCE to students and the community
  • Promote various program activities directly and oversee promotional activities of undergraduate interns
  • Guide students toward considering an Entrepreneurship Minor of involvement with PCE engagement and learning activities
  • Help develop other student engagement opportunities to support the PCE such as a student advisory board, an entrepreneurship club or external memberships (CFO, GCEC, etc.)
  • Maintain updated contact information for all student clubs and organizations for promotion of PCE activities and identification of potential partnering opportunities

Salary/Hours/Benefits

  • A stipend of $6000 per academic year.
  • 20 hours per week for 9 months (August – May)
  • Tuition Remission Benefits (2 courses in the fall and 2 courses in the spring).
