Overview

Department 456 is seeking experienced and dynamic Electrical Senior Design Resource Supervisors to join our leadership team. Electrical Design consists of approximately 510 designers in locations from Groton, Groton Shipyard, New London, QP, and Newport News Engineering Liaison Office (ELO). These roles are critical in driving the success of our electrical design organization through effective coordination, leadership development, and team growth.

 

This position will focus on coordinating electrical design groups across all programs, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and collaboration across design supervisors and their resources.

 

Developmental responsibilities will include ensuring design supervisors and their resources of maintain consistent practices when it comes to:

  • Employee development plan for designers and supervisors
  • Department training development
  • Product Development and consistent progressing in Artemis
  • Budget and schedule estimating
  • Having the right resources to support program needs
  • Working with HR and the Union
  • Developing department hiring goals
  • Improving First Time Quality

Other capabilities include manning requirements, understanding the skill mix, understanding program and contract needs. Working with HR and the Union to resolve contract matters. Working with design supervisors to better understand contract language, and strengthening our design organization for long-term success. Working with supervisors on cost performance index (CPI) and schedule performance index (SPI). Overseeing D456 estimates and making sure we are accounting for all possible scenario’s/requirements.

Successful candidate must possess strong computer and communication skills, flexibility, excellent interpersonal skills, a strong team commitment, be customer-focused, high energy and the ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff. Sensitivity to confidential human resource information (CHRI) shall be required.

  • This position requires a strong working knowledge of the CAD programs and processes used across all programs, business systems, priorities, construction needs, design standards, and company policies and procedures.
  • Must be familiar with drawing requirements, technical manuals, military specifications and other requirements.
  • Must have strong knowledge of the Electrical Systems area
  • Applicant must have strong interpersonal and writing skills.
  • A strong knowledge of the MDA Contract is required
  • Applicants for this position require a proven track record of being able to work in a time sensitive environment under aggressive deadlines.
  • Applicant must be a creative thinker who can solve problems.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 8 years related experience in design
  • Minimum of 4 years supervisory experience
  • Experience with Integrated Master Schedules, Earned Value Management System, and Staffing plans

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with SUBSAFE, DSS-SOC, Fly-by-Wire, ASTM specifications, welding requirements and ANSI-standards is preferred
  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in a related technical related field
