Overview

The Navy needs our submarines more than ever.  We have a large backlog of 16 submarines in various stages of construction and over the next year, contracts for the next blocks of COLUMBIA and VIRGINIA Class submarines will awarded.

As we look to increase our volume to one COLUMBIA and two VIRGINIA Class submarines delivered annually, there is both opportunity and need for us to improve our alignment and integration of work planning and execution.

This Program Integration directorate will lead the functional areas and COLUMBIA and VIRGINIA Program Office teams’ integration on key business objectives including cost and schedule performance, including shaping our future facilities and capture of the next class of submarines.  

Job Description:

This rotation position will support D686 Program Manager, Dan Duprey develop and implement an action plan that doubles Steel directorate output in 18 months.

This is a six-to-twelve month rotation for three engineers.  This position is a career development opportunity by providing daily first-hand exposure to manufacture and delivery of 40 spherical air flasks, two dozen watertight and non-watertight bulkheads and numerous decks, tanks and foundations.

This role will provide relationship building opportunities with both QP leadership team and COLUMBIA and VIRGINIA program offices where you will experience with the full life cycle of many structural products – plate processing, forming, ship-fitting, welding, inspection and delivery.  This role will provide exposure to multiple business system including plate nesting, weld wire assignment, SWSS (shipyard work status system), production agendas / scheduling and earned value management system.

Further, this role will:

  • Establish program plans, continuously monitor QP Steel area’s performance and development and implementation of corrective action when plans and performance misalign.
  • Assist in review and approval critical decisions involving cost, schedule, quality and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators related to execution, cost, quality and delivery. Report on any trends to internal and external customers. 
  • Identify and plan for risks across both programs and implement proactive mitigation strategies. Identify risks that are increased by an aggregation of both programs or are unique at the enterprise level (a result of a combination from both programs).
  • Assist in preparation and delivery of senior EB and Navy leadership briefings.

THIS ROLE IS A ROTATION, THERE WILL BE NO CHANGE TO JOB TITLE, COMPENSATION OR DEPARTMENT.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Engineering or technical discipline
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office products – Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred:

  • Two or more years EB experience, ideally in Structural disciplines
