Job Title: Recreational Therapy Coordinator
Department: Community Based Clinical
Location: Main Campus
Reports to: Director, Behavior Management Services
Schedule: Full Time

Job Summary: The Recreational Therapy Coordinator is responsible for providing direct recreational therapy services to clients. These services include assessment, treatment planning, individual sessions, group sessions, and documentation, among other things. The coordinator will also ensure program compliance with BDS standards through developing and monitoring documentation deadlines and requirements and provide ongoing training and support to team members.
Responsibilities
- Attends meetings, conferences, and workshops as recommended by the Director, Behavior Management Services.
- Develops program procedures and documentation.
- Coordinates and meets with new referrals.
- Trains Recreation Therapy Providers.
- Provides case supervision to Recreation Therapy Providers.
- Completes quality assurance active chart audits.
- Completes quality assurance audits of assessments and treatment plans.
- Maintains client charting.
- Maintains required productivity, modified caseload.
- Provides comprehensive recreational therapy assessment and treatment plan for each client served.
- Conducts regular home, community, or clinic-based individual and/or group recreational therapy sessions for clients on caseload.
- Consults and collaborates with family and team members in support of client needs.
- Plans programming for group sessions in collaboration with team members.
- Interacts with clients to demonstrate respect, acknowledgement of rights, and dignity at all times.
- Keeps abreast of current treatment technology, literature, practices, and regulations.
- Takes pride and ownership in Damar’s facilities and assigned work areas.
- Seeks the best use of materials, equipment, and staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
- Acts as a good steward of Damar and/or client finances.
- Shows initiative by identifying solutions to work towards improving stakeholder satisfaction.
- Prioritizes duties in a manner consistent with organizational objectives and growth.
- Provides written documentation of recreational therapy services via daily notes and monthly reports.
- Submits documentation (assessments, treatment plans, monthly notes, etc) per recreational therapy policy.
- Maintains prescribed level of productivity.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Handbook and Damar Operational Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Completes and updates mandatory training and other certification-related items in a timely manner.
- Maintains documentation that is accurate and legible.
- Completes incident reports within 24 hours of knowledge, including reporting any suspected exploitation, abuse, or neglect of a client.
- Completes daily utilization reports within 24 hours of service.
- Respects the culture, diversity and rights of all clients, their families and the community.
- Interacts professionally with parents, teachers, staff, and other providers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in recreational therapy (or related field with required coursework) from an accredited program required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with individuals with challenging behaviors, developmental and/or emotional disabilities required.
- One year of people management or clinical supervision experience preferred.
Equipment Familiarity: Proficiency with MS Office applications including: Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Certifications, Licenses or Special Training:
- Certification from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (CTRS)
- Minimum age of 18 per licensure requirements.
- Ability to pass and maintain Critical Moments Training (CMT) Certification.
- Ability to pass and maintain CPR Certification.
- Must meet and maintain background screening requirements for all Damar Programs as detailed in policy 1.HR.02 Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks.
- Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving).
- Successful completion of pre-employment physical required.
Abilities:
- Ability to follow and execute specific verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to promote and maintain positive interaction with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification if working in children’s residential home/unit licensed by Dept. of Child Services (DCS).
