Overview

Job Title: Utility Aide

Department: Food and Nutrition

Manager: Executive Chef

Schedule: 10:30am-7pm M-F (+ 2 weekends/month)

Compensation: Hourly / Non-exempt

Job Summary: The Utility Clerk is responsible for: ensuring food carts are set and ready for meal service, meal and food production clean up and the general cleaning of the kitchen.  The Utility Clerk assists the Dietary Team through ensuring the highest level of cleanliness and sanitation of dishes and dishwares. 

Responsibilities

Dependable

  • Follows and completes a high volume of cleaning, following a detailed daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedule.

Active

  • Washes dishes and loads food carts with proper dishes and utensils.
  • Follows proper sanitation procedures.
  • Uses chemicals and equipment properly.
  • Assists in the storage and handling of cleaning supplies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Seeks the best use of materials, equipment and staff to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Acts as a good steward of Damar’s finances.

Accountable

  • Responsible for preventative maintenance checks within the department.
  • Assists in maintaining the cafeteria, kitchen and equipment in a clean and sanitary manner which meets licensing requirements.
  • Adheres to all policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Handbook and Damar Operational Policies and Procedures Manuel.
  • Attends mandatory staff meeting and other meetings as assigned.
  • Completes and updates mandatory training and other licensure related items in a timely manner.
  • Maintains documentation that is accurate and legible
  • Completes incident reports, including reporting any suspected exploitation, abuse or neglect of a client.

Qualifications

Education: No formal education required.

 

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a commercial kitchen a plus.
  • Previous experience dish washing in a commercial kitchen a plus.Equipment Familiarity: Will teach on the job for additional equipment use.Certifications, Licenses or Special Training:
  • Minimum age of 21 depending on program and / or department requirements.
  • Must meet and maintain background screening requirements for all Damar Programs as detailed in policy 1.HR.02 Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks.
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving).
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen and physical required.

Abilities:

  • Ability to follow safety protocols for transporting meals and supplies to offsite location.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to demonstrate good time management skills.
  • Ability to routinely lift 10-20 pounds to waist level or overhead.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds to waist level.
  • Ability to climb ladders to clean hood system, ceilings and walls, as well as change light bulbs.
  • Follows proper sanitation procedures.
  • Ability to follow and execute specific verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to promote and maintain positive interaction with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
