Graduate Assistant - Archives (Library)
Job Description:
The Archives Graduate Assistant will participate in the operation of the archives, including providing reference service, organizing collections for access, planning and creating exhibits, and other tasks as required. This individual will gain experience with research techniques, project management, digital information management, and customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare materials for digitization, access, and discovery in the library’s digital archives site based on best practices in digital information management and preservation.
- Provide reference service to users in the archives, including identifying and retrieving appropriate materials and information to facilitate access to collections and to answer reference and research inquiries received via email, telephone, and in person.
- Process archival collections, including organizing and describing materials and creating appropriate finding
- aids, according to professional archival standards.
- Plan and prepare physical and online exhibits, including researching topics, selecting items, writing text, organizing, and mounting materials.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be accepted into a graduate program at Mount St. Mary’s University.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Project management experience preferred.
- Customer service experience preferred.
Salary/Hours/Benefits
- A stipend of $6000 per academic year.
- 20 hours per week, 9months (August – May.)
